The Worst Hip Hop Moments of 2010

1. The Return of Eminem
After a four-year hiatus, Eminem made his much-anticipated return to music with his album Recovery. But the album was a disappointment, earning mixed reviews and debuting at #1 on the Billboard charts solely on the strength of advance sales and hype.

2. The Death of Hip Hop Legend DJ Premier
One of hip hop’s most respected producers, DJ Premier, suffered a stroke in June 2010 and died shortly thereafter. His loss was felt throughout the hip hop community, and his death was a reminder of how fragile the genre’s history is.

3. The Fall of T-Pain
Once one of the hottest names in hip hop, T-Pain saw his star fall precipitously in 2010. His album Revolver debuted at a disappointing #32 on the Billboard charts, and he was largely overshadowed by newer artists like Drake and Nicki Minaj.

4. The Disrespectful Treatment of Hip Hop Legends by MTV
At the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, two veteran hip hop artists were treated disrespectfully by MTV. Lil Wayne was cut off during his performance by host Chelsea Handler, while Busta Rhymes was left off the show’s opening montage entirely.

5. The Ongoing Decline of Sean “Puffy” Combs
Sean “Puffy” Combs saw his once-mighty empire continue to crumble in 2010. His fashion line Sean John continued to struggle, losing $30 million this year alone. And Combs’ attempts to relaunch his music career were met with indifference from both fans and critics alike.
