Kirk Franklin and the Family was an American gospel music group, formed in 1993 by Kirk Franklin. The group’s lineup included mainstream R&B and pop performers who came together to record gospel music. The group found success with a number of hit songs, including “Stomp”, “Lean on Me”, “Something About the Name Jesus”, and “Why We Sing”.
In 2006, the group disbanded due to creative differences between Franklin and some of the other members. Despite this, the group remained active in recording and performing live, and released a number of successful albums over the next few years.
