Sr. Charles took home the top prize at the 2016 Blues Music Awards, cementing his status as one of the best blues musicians around. Congratulations, Sr. Charles!

The Awards

The 2016 Blues Music Awards were held in Memphis, Tennessee on May 5, 2016. The event was hosted by the Blues Foundation and was held at the Orpheum Theatre. There were over 100 nominees in various categories and the event was attended by over 2,000 people.

The BMA’s

The BMA’s, or Blues Music Awards, are an annual event to honor the best and brightest in blues music. This year, Sr. Charles took home top honors in the categories of Best Male Artist and Best Harmonica Player. We sat down with Sr. Charles to talk about his music, his career, and his big win.

Sr. Charles has been playing the blues for over 50 years. He’s toured with some of the biggest names in the business and has released 12 albums, with his latest – “Trouble” – coming out this past year. When asked about his win, Sr. Charles said he was humbled and honored to be recognized by his peers.

“It’s always nice to be recognized for your work,” he said, “but at the end of the day, I just want to make music that people enjoy.”

And that’s something we think he’ll continue to do for many years to come.

The Winners

Sr. Charles was the big winner at the 2016 Blues Music Awards, taking home honors for Best Male Artist, Best Song, and Best Album. He dedicated his music to the “ladies in the house,” and accepted his awards with a heartfelt speech thanking his family, friends, and fans for their support.

Other winners included Tracy Nelson for Best Female Artist and mindi abair and the boneshakers for Best Band.mindi abair also won an award for Best Instrumentalist-Keyboards.

Sr. Charles

Sr. Charles, a Chicago-based blues musician, took home the top honor at the 2016 Blues Music Awards. He beat out some of the biggest names in the blues world, including Buddy Guy and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

His Music

Sr. Charles is a highly acclaimed blues musician, winning the 2016 Blues Music Award for Best New Artist. His music is characterized by its infectious groove, soulful vocals, and masterful guitar work. Whether he’s playing an uptempo shuffle or a slow and soulful ballad, Sr. Charles always delivers a captivating performance.

His Life

Born on a plantation in Mississippi in 1874, Sr. Charles Alexander was orphaned at a young age and began working in the fields. When he was 12, he ran away from the plantation and made his way to Memphis, Tennessee. There he worked as a janitor and began playing music in the streets. He soon became known for his mastery of the blues guitar and travelled around the country performing. In 1916, he recorded his first album, “Sr. Charles Takes Home Top Honors at the 2016 Blues Music Awards.” Although he continued to play and record throughout his life, he never achieved the same level of success as he did with that first album. He died in obscurity in 1949.

The Event

Looking to the future, Charles is focused on continuing to create music that touches people’s hearts and souls. “I want to keep making music that is honest and from the heart. Music that people can feel and connect with.” He plans to continue touring and performing live, and is currently working on a new album. Can’t wait to see what he comes up with next!
