The Bridgeport Telegram (Connecticut) on October 12, 1930, reported that “Body and Soul” was being sung onstage by Gertrude Niesen at the Majestic Theater (Bridgeport).[citation needed] The reviewer wrote: “The threesome [Niesen, Lawrence Gray, Victor Moore] are exuberant over ‘Body and Soul’, one of those melancholy blues which undertakers croon to ease their clients into eternity.”
