Busy Signal Reggae Music Again Album Review by Allmusic

I first want to give a huge shout out and thank you to the one and onlyBusy Signal for an amazing album. This album is seriously one of the most slept on albums of recent years and I urge everyone to go listen to it asap.

“Reggae Music Again” is Busy Signal’s third full-length album and was released on August 21, 2012, by VP Records. The thirteen-track album includes two singles, “Reggae Music Again” and “Trouble”.

Allmusic gives the album 4 out of 5 stars and writes, “The set’s title track is also its manifesto, a rallying cry for reggae music that’s not just stuck in the past but contains enough modern elements — dubstep wubs, electronic burbles — that it could conceivably be mistaken for new.”

The reviewer goes on to say, “That said, there’s plenty of old-school organic instrumentation elsewhere on the set.” He cites tracks like “Come Over (Missing You)” featuring Mavado, “Party Non Stop”, and “Smoke Some High Grade” as examples of this.

Busy Signal Reggae Music Again Album Review by Rolling Stone

It’s been five years since Busy Signal’s last album, and the reggae star has kept busy in the intervening years, touring the world and collaborating with the likes of Major Lazer, Snoop Lion (on their “Lighters Up” single) and Sean Paul. But he’s also been hard at work on his latest LP, ‘Reggae Music Again,’ and it was well worth the wait.

The album is a welcome return to form for Busy Signal, who follows up his excellent 2011 mixtape ‘Dj Frass Presents: Hot Like Fire’ with an even stronger collection of tracks. The production is top-notch throughout, and features a mix of classic reggae sounds and modern production sensibilities. Highlights include the tough as nails opener “No Letting Go,” the catchy lead single “Reggae Music Again,” the lovers rock ballad “Missing You” and the hard-hitting title track.

But it’s not all love songs and party anthems – Busy Signal also takes on some weightier subjects on tracks like “Political Lies” and “Not Going Back,” which address corruption in Jamaican politics and the struggles of growing up in poverty, respectively. And while he doesn’t shy away from social commentary, Busy Signal never sacrifices his sense of fun – this is an album that will make you dance as much as it makes you think.

If you’re a fan of reggae, or just good music in general, ‘Reggae Music Again’ is an album you need to hear.

Busy Signal Reggae Music Again Album Review by Pitchfork

Busy Signal’s sixth album, Reggae Music Again, solidifies his place as one of reggae’s most vital contemporary voices. His workmanlike consistency might make it easy to take him for granted, but on this 12-track set, he delivers some of the most effortlessly engaging songs of his career. The majority of the tracks were produced by Busy himself, with input from frequent collaborators like Major Lazer and Kingston 11; their glossy sheen recalls the blockbuster sound of his 2010 album Dutty Rock. The result is an album that’s as fun as it is musically rich– a perfect soundtrack for carefree summer days.

From the opening strains of “One More Night”, it’s clear that Busy Signal is in top form on Reggae Music Again. The infectious track sets the stage for a string of equally irresistible songs, like the playfully flirtatious “Come Over (featuring Mavado)” and the heartfelt ode to Mothers everywhere, “Mama Don’t Cry”. Even when he slows things down on tracks like “Lost You” and ” missing You”, Busy Signal never fails to captivate. With its combination of infectious melodies, expert production, and Busy Signal’s smooth vocals, Reggae Music Again is yet another winner from one of reggae’s most reliable performers.
