The Calgary Blues Music Association is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to preserving and promoting the blues in Calgary.
What is the Calgary Blues Music Association?
The Calgary Blues Music Association (CBMA) is a non-profit society and registered charity dedicated to the promotion, preservation and advancement of blues music in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The CBMA Board of Directors is made up of volunteers who are passionate about the blues. Their goals are to support and nurture the local blues scene by promoting live music events, supporting blues education and outreach programs, and providing opportunities for local blues artists to perform and grow.
The CBMA presents the annual Calgary International Blues Festival, which takes place every August in downtown Calgary. The festival features a wide range of local, national, and international blues artists performing on stages throughout the city. In addition to the festival, the CBMA presents regular live music events at venues throughout Calgary throughout the year.

The Association’s main goals are to support local blues musicians, to promote blues music events, and to educate the public about the history and culture of blues music.
The Association’s History
The Calgary Blues Music Association (CBMA) is a not-for-profit society dedicated to the promotion and preservation of blues music in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The CBMA was founded in 1996 by a group of dedicated blues enthusiasts. Our goal is to promote the blues through education and performance opportunities. We also work to preserve the blues by supporting the work of local and regional blues musicians.
The CBMA is a volunteer-run organization. We rely on the support of our members and the community to continue our work.
We welcome your involvement in any way you can contribute. Whether you are a musician, a fan of the blues, or just someone who wants to help out, we would love to have you as part of our team!
The Association’s Members
The Association’s Members are Calgary area musicians who share a common love of the blues. The Association provides an opportunity for these musicians to connect with each other and with the blues community at large. In addition to the personal satisfaction that comes from playing the blues, the members of the Association receive many benefits, including:
-A forum for exchanging ideas and sharing information about the blues
-Performance opportunities at local venues
-The chance to meet and play with other blues musicians
– Access to a library of blues music
-Discounts on CDs, DVDs, and books about the blues
-The camaraderie of fellow blues fans
The Association’s Activities
The Calgary Blues Music Association is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the blues in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The Association’s activities include, but are not limited to:
-Hosting the annual Calgary International Blues Festival, which features local, national, and international blues artists;
-Organizing concerts and events featuring blues artists throughout the year;
-Presenting workshops and educational programs on the history and appreciation of the blues;
-Operating a lending library of blues CDs, DVDs, and books;
-Publishing a monthly newsletter, The Cochrane Eagle, with information on the Association’s activities and the Calgary blues scene.
The Association’s Future
The Calgary Blues Music Association is a not-for-profit registered charity dedicated to the promotion, preservation and advancement of the blues in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The Association’s Future:
The Association is governed by a Board of Directors elected annually by the membership. The Board consists of a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary, with a maximum of nine (9) other members. Directors serve staggered two-year terms.
