Camila Cabello had a big night at the Latin Music Awards, taking home five trophies. The singer won awards for artist of the year, song of the year, best female artist, best pop album and best video.
Cabello’s wins
Camila Cabello took home five awards at the Latin American Music Awards on Thursday night, including Artist of the Year and Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist.
The former Fifth Harmony singer, who was born in Cuba and raised in Miami, thanked her family and fans in Spanish during her acceptance speech for Artist of the Year.
“This award is for all immigrants,” Cabello said. “My mom and dad risked everything to come here… I share this award with all of you.”
Cabello also won awards for Favorite Album – Pop/Rock (for her self-titled debut album), Favorite Song – Pop/Rock (for “Havana”), Favorite Video – Pop/Rock (“Havana”), and Favorite Social Artist.
Cabello’s performance
During the show, Cabello gave a heartfelt performance of her single “First Man,” which is dedicated to her father. The Latin star was in tears as she sang the emotional ballad in front of a montage of home videos showing her dad throughout her life.
Cabello’s acceptance speeches
During the show, Cabello won three awards: favorite album – pop/rock for her self-titled debut, favorite female artist – pop/rock, and favorite song – pop/rock for “Havana.” In her first acceptance speech of the night, the “Never Be the Same” singer became emotional as she talked about how grateful she was to be able to represent her culture.
“I just want to say how honored I am to be able to represent my culture,” Cabello said through tears. “It means so much to me, and I’m so proud.”
The 21-year-old singer also talked about how much Latin music has influenced her in both her personal life and her career.
“Latin music has played such a big role in my life,” she said. “My mom used to listen to Cuban music all the time when I was growing up, and it’s just always been a huge part of who I am.”
Cabello concluded her speech by dedicating her award to all of the Latinx people who have made their mark on the world.
“This is for every single Latino out there making their dreams come true,” she said.
What’s next for Cabello
After her big win at the Latin Music Awards, Cabello is gearing up for her next project. The singer is set to release a new album in 2020, and she’s already working on new music. In addition to her own album, Cabello will also be featured on a track on the upcoming Justin Bieber album. She’s also working on new music with Pharrell Williams.
