Merriweather Post Pavilion
Merriweather Post Pavilion is an American concert venue built in 1967 by the Rouse Company. The pavilion seats about 41,000 people and is located within Symphony Woods, a beautifully landscaped forested area close to downtown Columbia, Maryland. The venue is managed and operated by Live Nation and is one of the most popular concert destinations in the greater Washington, D.C. area.
The pavilion stage originally had a metal roof that opened and closed like a camera shutter. In 1984, the metal roof was replaced with a permanent fiberglass shell that has since become an iconic part of the venue’s appearance. The surrounding forest provides a natural backdrop for concerts and the pavilion has become known for its excellent sound quality.
In addition to hosting many of the biggest names in music, Merriweather Post Pavilion is also known for its annual summer music festivals. The Capital Jazz Fest and The Grateful Dead’s Fare Thee Well tour are just two of the festivals that have taken place at Merriweather Post Pavilion over the years.
