Walk the Line: This 2005 movie tells the story of Johnny Cash, one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. The film chronicles Cash’s early life, including his struggles with poverty and addiction, as well as his meteoric rise to stardom.

Coal Miner’s Daughter: This 1980 film tells the story of Loretta Lynn, one of the most successful female country music singers of all time. The film chronicles Lynn’s poverty-stricken childhood in Kentucky and her eventual rise to stardom in Nashville.

The Patsy Cline Story: This 1986 made-for-television movie chronicles the life and career of Patsy Cline, one of the most influential and acclaimed country music singers of all time. The film includes performances by some of Cline’s biggest hits, including “Crazy” and “I Fall to Pieces.”

O Brother, Where Art Thou?: This 2000 Coen brothers film is loosely based on Homer’s Odyssey and set in Mississippi during the Great Depression. The film follows three jail escapees who embark on a quest to find a treasure buried by one of their ancestors. Crazy Heart

Crazy Heart is a 2009 American country music drama film directed, produced, and co-written by Scott Cooper. Coat Bridge stars Jeff Bridges as Bad Blake, a country music singer-songwriter who tries to rebuild his career after his alcoholism and personal problems send him on a downward spiral. The film’s supporting cast includes Maggie Gyllenhaal, Colin Farrell, and Robert Duvall. Bridges won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2010 for his performance in the film.

Sweet Home Alabama

If you’re a fan of country music, then you’ve probably seen Sweet Home Alabama. The film stars Reese Witherspoon as a fashion designer from New York City who returns to her small hometown in Alabama to get divorced from her cheating husband. While there, she reconnects with her high school sweetheart (played by Josh Lucas) and must choose between the life she has built for herself in the city and the life she could have had with him. The film features an amazing soundtrack of country hits, including “I Will Always Love You” by Dolly Parton and “Achy Breaky Heart” by Billy Ray Cyrus.

The Last Song

The Last Song is a 2010 American coming-of-age teen drama film developed alongside Nicholas Sparks’ 2009 novel of the same name. The film was directed by Julie Anne Robinson in her feature film directorial debut and starred Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth, and Greg Kinnear.

The Last Song is set in North Carolina during the summer before Veronica “Ronnie” Miller’s (Cyrus) senior year of high school. Ronnie’s parents share joint custody of her and she elects to spend the summer with her father, Steve Miller (Kinnear), whom she has had little contact with since her parents divorced three years earlier. Steve enlists Ronnie to help him in his local church youth group, where she meets Will Blakelee (Hemsworth). Meanwhile, as a result of spending time together, Ronnie and Will develop mutual feelings for each other.

The Last Song was released on March 31, 2010, by Touchstone Pictures. Upon its release, both the movie and Cyrus’ performance received generally positive reviews from critics. The Last Song grossed $61 million worldwide.

Country Strong

Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim McGraw, and Garrett Hedlund star in this 2010 film about a famous country singer who falls off the wagon and attempts to mount a career comeback. The film was directed by Shana Feste and co-written by Her and country music singer-songwriter Lily Meola. Country Strong explores the high price of fame and the sustaining power of love.
