These five artists are currently making some of the best electronic dance music around. If you’re not familiar with them, you need to be!

Who are they?

We’ll start with an easy one- Daft Punk. If you don’t know who Daft Punk is, you have probably been living under a rock for the past 20 years. Daft Punk is a French electronic music duo that has been active since 1993. They are considered to be one of the most influential dance music artists of all time.

Flume

Flume is the stage name of Harley Edward Streten, an Australian electronic musician, record producer and DJ. His music has been described as a blend of IDM, hip hop andEDM. He first gained recognition after winning a competition hosted by future bass label Future Classic in 2011, and his self-titled debut album was released in 2012 to positive reviews.

Disclosure

Disclosure are an English electronic music duo consisting of brothers Howard and Guy Lawrence. The siblings grew up in Reigate, Surrey. Their debut album, Settle, released on 3 June 2013 by PMR Records, reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and was nominated for Best Dance/Electronica Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards. They have headlined music festivals such as Coachella, Glastonbury, Splendour in the Grass[2] and Lollapalooza. In 2015, they announced a two-year hiatus from performing live to focus on writing their third studio album.

Odesza

ODESZA is a US-based musical duo, composed of Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight, hailing from Seattle, Washington. The project was born out of Mills and Knight’s college days at Western Washington University. After releasing their first album, ‘Summer’s Gone’, in 2012 to much acclaim, the boys have gone on to tour the world and release a second full-length record, ‘In Return’, in 2014.

Their unique brand of glitched-out electronica has seen them win over fans and critics alike, with their live shows being declared as not to be missed. If you’re a fan of electronic music, then ODESZA should definitely be on your radar.

Porter Robinson

Porter Robinson is an electro house and trance producer from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He is best known for his singles “Language” and “Unison”, which both peaked at number one on the Beatport charts. Robinson has released two studio albums, Worlds and Shelter, and has performed at various music festivals such as Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival, Tomorrowland, and Ultra Music Festival.

Robinson began his musical career in 2008, when he released his self-titled debut EP. He gained popularity in 2010 with the release of his single “Language”, which topped the Beatport chart for two weeks. In 2011, Robinson released his debut studio album, Worlds. The album received positive reviews from critics and was a commercial success, reaching number one on the US Dance/Electronic Albums chart and number 15 on the Billboard 200. In 2014, Robinson collaborated with fellow DJ and producer Madeon on the single “Shelter”. The song was a critical and commercial success, peaking at number one on the US Dance/Electronic Songs chart and becoming Robinson’s second song to top the Beatport chart. Robinson has continued to release singles throughout his career, such as “Easy” (2016) and “Get Your Wish” (2020).

Madeon

Madeon is a French electronic music producer and DJ who first gained popularity with his “Pop Culture” mash-up in 2011. His debut studio album, Adventure, was released in 2015. He has collaborated with several high-profile artists such as Lady Gaga, Bastille, and Porter Robinson.

What have they done?

Dance electronic music has been around for a while, but it’s only in the past few years that it has really taken off. Flume

Harley Edward Streten, better known by his stage name Flume, is an Australian electronic musician, DJ and producer. His self-titled debut studio album, Flume, was released on 9 November 2012 to positive reviews, reaching number one on the ARIA Albums Chart and number 10 on the Billboard 200 in the United States. The album won Best Dance/Electronica Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards.

Flume’s second studio album, Skin, was released on 27 May 2016 to positive reviews. It debuted at number one in Australia and the United States, and peaked at number four in New Zealand. The singles “Never Be Like You”, “Say It” and “Smoke & Retribution” reached number one on triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2016: his second song to do so following 2012’s “Holdin On”.

Disclosure

Disclosure is a British electronic music duo consisting of brothers Howard (born 11 May 1994) and Guy Lawrence (born 25 February 1991). The siblings grew up in Reigate, Surrey. Their debut album, Settle, released on 3 June 2013 by PMR Records, reached number one on the UK Albums Chart.

The duo’s second album, Caracal, was released on 25 September 2015 also by PMR Records. In February 2015, they announced a North American tour with supporting act Lorde; the same month their single “Omen” reached number one on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart.

Odesza

Formed in 2012 by two students at Western Washington University, Odesza is the Electronic music duo Harrison Mills (Catacombkid) and Clayton Knight (BeachesBeaches). Not too long after they graduated, the albums “My Friends Never Die” and “In Return” helped propel them into the spotlight. Odesza’s music can be classified as Future Bass, Melodic Dubstep, or Chillwave. The group has won a Grammy award and have been nominated for 3 others.

Porter Robinson

Porter Robinson is an EDM producer and DJ who first gained popularity in the early 2010s. His debut album, Worlds, was released in 2014 to critical acclaim. Robinson has since released several singles and EPs, including “Shelter” with Madeon in 2016. He is widely considered one of the best dance music producers of his generation.

Robinson began his career as a teenage prodigy, releasing his first EP, Spitfire, in 2011. The EP was a major success, and it propelled him to international stardom. He followed up Spitfire with his debut album, Worlds, in 2014. Worlds was widely praised by critics and fans alike, and it cemented Robinson as one of the leading figures in the EDM world.

Since then, he’s released two full-length albums, ‘Adventure’ (2015) and ‘Good Faith’ (2019), as well as a series of innovative singles and EPs. Madeon is also known for his groundbreaking live shows, which often incorporate complex visual effects and require him to play multiple instruments at once. He’s collaborated with a who’s who of pop and electronic artists, including Lady Gaga, The Killers, Passion Pit, Porter Robinson, Coldplay, and more.

Flume’s 2013 single “Holdin On” reached No. 1 on the ARIA Singles Chart and was voted number one in the Hottest 100 poll of 2013. His second album, Skin, was released in 2016 to positive reviews and topped the ARIA Albums Chart, becoming his second No. 1 album in Australia and reaching number eight in the US Billboard 200.
