The Best Electronic Music Videos of 2010
Contents
A look at the best electronic music videos of 2010.
Best Overall Video
There were so many good music videos in 2010, but these 10ensemble pieces truly stood out as the best of the best.
1. “Remind Me” by Röyksopp feat. Robyn
Directed by Marcus Söderlund
The first thing that struck me about this video was the absolutely gorgeous opening shot of the snow-covered landscape. It’s one of those shots that makes you want to reach out and touch the screen. The video is set in a post-apocalyptic world where two former lovers (played by Robyn and Norwegian actor Trond Høvik) are brought back together by a force beyond their control. The video is equal parts touching and eerie, with a healthy dose of eye candy thrown in for good measure.
2. “In for the Kill” by La Roux
Directed by Wright & te wheelchair
This was one of those videos that I watched over and over again, trying to figure out how they did it. It turns out that a lot of it was accomplished with practical effects, which is always impressive to see in a music video these days. The stop-motion style animation mixed with live action footage gives the video a unique look that perfectly matches the retro feel of La Roux’s ’80s inspired synth-pop tunes.
Best Concept Video
Directing duo The Shoes turned in this wonderfully chilled out concept video for “Time to Dance,” the lead track off of their album Crack My Bones. The video features a series of dance scenes that are intercut with shots of a decaying cityscape. The end result is a visually arresting video that perfectly captures the vibe of the song.
Best Animation Video
The following is a list of the best animated music videos of 2010. Topping our list is “The Controller” by Swedish artist Mr. Weebl. The video features a very creative and unique style of animation, with characters that are both cute and slightly creepy at the same time. It’s definitely worth a watch!
Other notable mentions include “Adventure Time” by Pendulum, “Yonkers” by Tyler, the Creator, and “Kites” by Miike Snow. All of these videos are extremely creative and well-executed, and they’re sure to get your foot tapping along to the beat.
Best Performance Video
When it comes to making a great music video, there are a lot of factors that come into play. The song has to be good, of course, but the visuals need to enhance the music and create an immersive experience for the viewer. In 2010, there were a lot of great music videos released, but some stood out above the rest. Here are our picks for the best performance videos of 2010.
-Justice – “Civilization”
-LCD Soundsystem – “I Can Change”
-Hot Chip – “I Feel Better”
-Vampire Weekend – “Giving Up The Gun”
-Yeasayer – “O.N.E.”
Best Editing Video
While some mastery of the art of editing is required for all types of filmmaking, music videos in particular demand a high level of skill in this department. The best music videos are able to take the song they are promoting and enhance it with creative visuals that perfectly complement the tune. The following ten videos represent the best of what 2010 had to offer in terms of creativity, innovation, and pure visual spectacle.
Best Cinematography
