In 2013, house music continued to evolve and grow in popularity. A wide variety of subgenres emerged, and many new artists made a name for themselves. Here are ten of the most famous and influential house tracks of the year.

“Animals” by Martin Garrix

“Animals” is a song by Dutch DJ and record producer Martin Garrix, released as a digital download on 17 June 2013 on iTunes. The song has peaked to number 3 in Belgium, number 4 in the Netherlands and number 10 in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It was released as the lead single from his extended play, Gold Skies.

“Harlem Shake” by Baauer

The Harlem Shake is a song recorded by American DJ and producer Baauer. It was released on May 22, 2012, by Mad Decent imprint label Jeffree’s. The uptempo song incorporates a heavy bassline, 808 kick drum, snare drums, claps, and subway sounds. It also features samples of growling-lion noises.

“I Could Be the One” by Avicii vs. Nicky Romero

This song was released in 2013 and is a collaboration between Swedish producer Avicii and Dutch producer Nicky Romero. The song topped the charts in several countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.

“Titanium” by David Guetta feat. Sia

“Titanium” is a song by French DJ and music producer David Guetta, featuring vocals by Australian singer Sia. It was released as a single from Guetta’s fifth studio album, Nothing but the Beat, on 8 August 2011. The song was written by Sia Furler, Guetta, Giorgio Tuinfort and Afrojack. According to Guetta, the song was influenced by a period when he did not feel “strictly positive”, and titanium is known for its strength.

The song’s accompanying music video was directed by David Campion and premiered on Guetta’s official website on 21 December 2011. The video features highlights from various cities that Guetta has performed in during his “Nothing but the Beat” world tour in 2011; these include Los Angeles, Ibiza Town and Mumbai. As of May 2015, the video has received over 280 million views on YouTube.

“Wake Me Up” by Avicii

avicii’s “Wake Me Up” was one of the most popular songs of 2013. The EDM track mixed in country and folk elements to create a unique and catchy sound. The song topped charts in over 20 countries and was certified 6x platinum in the US.

“We Are Young” by Fun. feat. Janelle Monáe

“We Are Young” is a song recorded by American indie pop band Fun. featuring Janelle Monáe, for their second studio album, Some Nights (2012). The song was released on September 20, 2011, as the lead single from Some Nights. The song received positive reviews from music critics, with many noting the effective anthemic nature of the track. It was a commercial success in the United States and Canada, peaking at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and Digital Songs chart and number three on the Canadian Hot 100. Internationally, “We Are Young” peaked in the top ten in several countries, including Australia, France, Ireland and New Zealand.

Icona Pop is a Swedish duo who hit it big in 2013 with their single “I Love It.” The song, which features English singer Charli XCX, was an instant hit, reaching #1 in several countries. It has since been featured in numerous commercials and television shows.

Daft Punk’s collaboration with Pharrell Williams, “Get Lucky,” was one of the biggest songs of 2013. The track went to number one in several countries and was a huge hit in the club scene.

“Just Give Me a Reason” by P!nk feat. Nate Ruess

“Just Give Me a Reason” is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter Pink, featuring fun.’s lead singer Nate Ruess. The song was released on January 25, 2013 as the second single from Pink’s sixth studio album, The Truth About Love (2012).[2] “Just Give Me a Reason” is a pop ballad about the degeneration of a relationship and its ultimate recovery.[3][4]

The song achieved commercial success worldwide, reaching number one in thirteen countries including Australia, Canada, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom. In the United States, the song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on March 16, 2013 (her fourth single to do so), giving Pink her tenth top-ten hit single on the chart. The song also became Pink’s fourth number-one hit single on the Adult Contemporary Chart and third on the Adult Pop Songs chart. It peaked at number two on both the Mainstream Top 40 and Rhythmic radio charts.

The music video for “Just Give Me a Reason” was directed by Peter Lindbergh and features Jamie Dornan and Rosamund Pike as a young couple in love.[5] It won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Collaboration in 2013.[6][7]
