The 2013 Folk Music Awards were announced on May 5th, with the ever-popular Bob Dylan winning the prestigious Album of the Year award for his latest release, Tempest. Dylan’s victory was hardly a surprise, as the musician has been a favorite of the folk music community for decades.
Winners
The following is a list of winners of the 2013 Folk Music Awards. The awards were handed out on November 15, 2013 in Kansas City, Missouri.
-Album of the Year: The folk-rock band The Avett Brothers won for their album “The Carpenter.”
-Artist of the Year: Singer-songwriter John Prine won for his work on two albums, “American Band” and “For Better, or Worse.”
-Song of the Year: The song “I Am the Highway” by the rock band Audioslave won for its positive message and social relevance.
-Best New Artist: Folk singer Hailey Whitters won for her debut album “Blacktop.”
