Origins
The origins of the Folk Music Outfit can be traced back to the summer of 2012, when singer-songwriter Daniel Kuroski and multi-instrumentalist Luke Thomson met at a songwriting camp in Ontario, Canada. The two hit it off immediately and began writing and performing together under the name “The Folk Music Outfit”.
Kuroski and Thomson continued to write and perform together for the next few years, gigs within their local Ontario folk music scene. In 2015, the two released their debut EP, “Songs from the North”, which garnered critical acclaim from both fans and music critics alike.
The Folk Music Outfit has continued to evolve since their humble beginnings, expanding their lineup to include fiddler Sarah Mark (formerly of The Duhks) and bassist Mike Leahey (of Leahey & The Lads). With this new lineup, The Folk Music Outfit released their first full-length album, “One Way Road”, in 2018.
The Band
The band has been together since college and has been playing together for years. They have a unique sound that is a blend of traditional folk music with a modern twist. The Band was a Canadian-American rock group, originally consisting of four Canadians—Rick Danko (bass guitar, double bass, fiddle, trombone), Garth Hudson (keyboards, trumpet), Richard Manuel (pianos, drums, baritone saxophone) and Robbie Robertson (guitar, piano)—and one American, Levon Helm (drums, mandolin, guitar, bass guitar). The members of the Band met while they were all backing up rockabilly singer Ronnie Hawkins in Toronto.
What type of music do they play?

Once they have the initial idea, they bring it to the group and start working on arranging it together. The whole process is very collaborative, and everyone has a chance to contribute their own ideas and input.
Some of the band’s most popular songs have come about simply by messing around and jamming together – just playing whatever comes into their heads in the moment and seeing where it takes them. They’ll often take something they’ve written in one session and revisit it later, adding new parts or tweaking the arrangement. It’s all about experimenting and seeing what works best for each individual song.
