Joe Bonamassa is an American blues rock guitarist, singer and songwriter. He started playing guitar at the age of four and has released twelve studio albums, fifteen live albums, three compilation albums and one DVD. His latest album, Different Shades of Blue, was released in 2014.
Bonamassa was born in Utica, New York, United States. His mother, Barbara Joan (née Purvis), was a Singer; his father, John Joseph Bonamassa, Sr., was an entrepreneur. He is of Italian and Dutch descent. Joe’s siblings are Lisa Purvis and John Bonamassa III (maternal half-siblings), and Michael65Domain (paternal half-sibling). His mother remarried to Joseph Dioguardi in 1981.
Bonamassa lived in upstate New York until age seven when his mother outbid someone for a guitar at a local garage sale for $5. His earliest musical influences were British Invasion bands such as The Beatles, The Who and Led Zeppelin; classic blues artists such as B.B., Freddie and Albert King; as well as country music artist Hank Williams Sr.. In May 1980, at age thirteen years old, he saw the Rolling Stones play live on their “Emotional Rescue Tour”. “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing!”, he said in an interview years later.” That same year he took guitar lessons from Donald Fagen’s father George who introduced him to jazz fusion players like Larry Coryell and Frank Gambale .
Tedschi Trucks Band
The Tedschi Trucks Band is an American blues rock group based in Jacksonville, Florida. The band is led by husband-and-wife team Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, both of whom play guitar and sing. Their musical style incorporates elements of blues, jazz, soul, rock and gospel.
The Tedschi Trucks Band was formed in 2010, following the dissolution of the Derek Trucks Band and Susan Tedeschi’s solo career. The group released their debut album, Revelator, in 2011 to critical acclaim. They have released five studio albums and one live album to date.
The Tedschi Trucks Band has won several awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Blues Album for their 2016 album Let Me Get By. They have also been nominated for six Grammy Awards in total. In addition to their work as a band, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi have also released several solo albums.
