The Best and Worst of the Hip Hop Music Awards 2018
From Kendrick Lamar to Cardi B, check out the best and worst moments of the 2018 Hip Hop Music Awards.
The Best
The best of the Hip Hop Music Awards 2018 include Childish Gambino’s “This Is America” taking home Song of the Year, Drake’s six awards for his work on “God’s Plan,” and Juice WRLD winning Best New Artist. Childish Gambino’s “This Is America” also won Video of the Year, and it was a big night for Drake as he took home trophies for Artist of the Year, Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Hot Ticket Performer, Lyricist of the Year, and Producer of the Year.
The Worst
The worst of the awards this year goes to… (drumroll)… the fashion! For the most part, it was a sea of baggy clothes, grills, and too much jewelry. It felt like everyone was trying to out-do each other with how “thuggish” they could look. There were a few shining moments though. Cardi B looked amazing in her white fur coat (though we wish she would have left the grill at home). Kendrick Lamar also looked great in his all-white suit. But overall, it was a fashion fail.
The Most Controversial
This year’s Hip Hop Awards were filled with plenty of controversy, especially when it came to the Best Rapper Alive category. While many believe that Kendrick Lamar deserved the win, there was a lot of debate about whether or not he actually is the best rapper alive. This led to a lot of people calling out the awards show for not being inclusive enough.
The Best Dressed
The best dressed at the awards this year included Cardi B, Janelle Monae, and Migos. Cardi B rocked a sequined dress with a thigh-high slit, while Janelle Monae wore a colorful pantsuit with a matching hat. Migos went for a more traditional look, sporting black tuxedos with white shirts and black ties.
The Worst Dressed
All eyes were on the red carpet at the 2018 Hip Hop Music Awards, but unfortunately, not all of the attention was good. Here are some of the Worst Dressed celebrities of the evening:
offset
The Migos rapper wore a gaudy Louis Vuitton print suit that was too busy and looked more like pajamas than something you would wear to a formal event.
Teyana Taylor
The singer wore a sequined bodysuit that was cut so low, it barely covered anything. She also sported a pair of fishnet tights and thigh-high boots, which did nothing to help her look any more appropriate for the occasion.
Lil’ Kim
The iconic rapper donned a bright yellow latex dress that hugged every curve and left very little to the imagination. The dress also had a train that made it even more difficult to walk in.
