Kendrick Lamar- DAMN.
Kendrick Lamar is one of the most celebrated rappers of our generation, and his new album DAMN. is one of the most anticipated hip hop releases of the year. DAMN. is Lamar’s fourth studio album, and it features guest appearances from Rihanna, U2, Zacari, and Damian Marley. The album was produced by Mike Will Made-It, Sounwave, DJ Dahi, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, and 9th Wonder.
Lamar’s previous album To Pimp a Butterfly was a critical and commercial success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 and winning the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. Lamar is widely considered to be one of the best rappers alive today, and his new album is sure to be another masterpiece.
J. Cole- 4 Your Eyez Only
On December 9th, 2016 J. Cole released his 4th studio album 4 Your Eyez Only. The album was highly anticipated by fans as Cole’s last project, 2014 Forest Hills Drive, went platinum with no features.
4 Your Eyez Only is a nice change of pace from the rapper, as listeners are graced with 10 tracks that tell the story of a man struggling with the realities of life and death. The project provides valuable lessons about love, heartbreak, and betrayal while still delivering those head-nodding beats that we have come to love from J. Cole.

Drake- More Life
Drake- More Life
Drake is set to release his latest album, More Life, sometime in 2017. The album will be a follow-up to his 2016 release, Views, and will feature guest appearances from the likes of Quavo, Travis Scott, and 2 Chainz.
Big Sean- I Decided
One of the most anticipated hip hop releases of the year is Big Sean’s I Decided. The album is set to be released on February 3, 2017 and features a star-studded lineup of guest appearances, including Eminem, Jhené Aiko, The-Dream, Travis Scott, and more.
I Decided was preceded by the lead single “Bounce Back”, which was released on October 31, 2016. The song debuted at number six on the US Billboard Hot 100, making it Big Sean’s highest-charting single as a solo artist.
The album’s second single, “Moves”, was released on January 17, 2017.
Chance the Rapper- Coloring Book
On May 13, 2016, Chance the Rapper released his third mixtape, Coloring Book. The mixtape was highly anticipated due to the success of his previous two mixtapes, 10 Day (2012) and Acid Rap (2013). Coloring Book is a gospel and hip hop album that features guest appearances from Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne, Future, 2 Chainz, and more. The album was well-received by critics and debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200 chart.
Lil Wayne- Tha Carter V
Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V is one of the most highly anticipated hip hop albums of 2018. After much delay, it is set to be released on September 28th. The album was originally supposed to come out in 2014, but legal issues and disagreements with Wayne’s record label, Cash Money Records, prevented its release. Since then, there has been much speculation about whether or not the album would ever see the light of day.
Lil Wayne is one of the most popular and successful rappers of all time, so there is a lot of pressure for Tha Carter V to live up to the hype. It will be interesting to see what direction Lil Wayne takes with his music on this album, and if he is able to meet the high expectations that have been set for him.
Travis Scott- Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight
The long-awaited album from Travis Scott is finally set to release on August 3, 2016. The album was originally supposed to come out in late 2015, but was pushed back due to production difficulties. “Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight” is the follow-up to Scott’s debut album “Rodeo”, which was released in 2015 to critical acclaim. The new album features guest appearances from André 3000, Kid Cudi, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, Quavo, and Young Thug.
A Tribe Called Quest- We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service
A Tribe Called Quest’s sixth and final album, We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service, is one of the most anticipated hip hop releases of the year. The album features contributions fromAndré 3000, Kendrick Lamar, Elton John, Jack White, and Busta Rhymes.
Mac Miller- The Divine Feminine
Mac Miller’s latest album The Divine Feminine features some of the biggest names in the industry and is one of the most anticipated hip hop releases of 2016. With features from Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak, and Ariana Grande, this album is sure to be a hit.
Schoolboy Q- Blank Face LP
Schoolboy Q is set to release his much-anticipated album, Blank Face LP, on July 8th. The rapper has been steadily dropping singles and music videos leading up to the album’s release, and fans are eagerly awaiting its arrival.
Schoolboy Q’s previous release, Oxymoron, was a commercial and critical success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 and earning him a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. With such high expectations for Blank Face LP, it’s no wonder that it’s one of the most anticipated hip hop releases of the year.
