What are the current initiatives of the Latin American Music Center?
The Latin American Music Center (LAMC) is currently engaged in several initiatives to promote the study and performances of Latin American music. In addition to our ongoing programming, we are currently working on the following projects:
-A new online resource for Latin American music scores, which will be available to scholars and musicians around the world.
-A study of the musical traditions of the Amazonian Basin, in partnership with IU’s Creative Arts and Sciences Initiative.
-A series of collaborations with Colombian artists and ensembles, leading up to a major festival of Colombian music at IU in 2019.
What are the future plans for the Latin American Music Center?
The Latin American Music Center has big plans for the future! We want to continue to provide high quality music education to students of all ages, expand our reach to new students, and broaden our offerings to include more types of music from Latin America. Additionally, we hope to increase our partnerships with other organizations, both in the United States and Latin America, in order to promote cultural understanding and exchange.
