Here is a list of some of the best jazz and heavy metal singers out there. These singers have both range and power.

Jazz Singers

Many people assume that all metal singers are harsh and aggressive sounding, but that isn’t always the case. Jazz singers often have a very soft, smooth voice that can be quite soothing to listen to. This is one of the reasons why jazz singers are so popular.

Billie Holiday

Billie Holiday (born Eleanora Fagan Gough; April 7, 1915 – July 17, 1959) was an American jazz singer with a vocal style that strongly influenced many other jazz singers. Nicknamed “Lady Day” by her friend and music partner Lester Young, Holiday had a seminal influence on jazz music and pop singing. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. She was known for her vocal delivery and improvisational skills, which made up for her limited range and lack of formal music education.

Ella Fitzgerald

Ella Jane Fitzgerald (April 25, 1917 – June 15, 1996) was an American jazz singer often referred to as the First Lady of Song, Queen of Jazz, and Lady Ella. She was noted for her purity of tone, impeccable diction, phrasing, intonation, and a “horn-like” improvisational ability, particularly in her scat singing. Fitzgerald was a notable interpreter of the Great American Songbook. Over the course of her 60-year recording career, she sold 40 million copies of her recorded work, a total surpassed only by Bing Crosby and Paul McCartney.

Nina Simone

Nina Simone was an African American singer, songwriter, and pianist who achieved great success in the jazz genre. She was born in 1933 in North Carolina, and began playing piano at a young age. She went on to study at the Juilliard School of Music, but left before graduating to pursue a career in music.

Simone began performing in nightclubs in the 1950s, and rose to prominence with her uniquely soulful and emotive vocal style. She released a number of successful jazz albums throughout her career, including “Little Girl Blue” (1958), “I Put a Spell on You” (1965), and “The Soul of Nina Simone” (1966). In addition to her work as a jazz singer, Simone also wrote and performed songs with political and social commentary, such as “Mississippi Goddam” (1964) and “To Be Young, Gifted and Black” (1969).

Simone remained active as a performer and recording artist until her death in 2003. She was posthumously inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2005.

Heavy Metal Singers

Jazz and heavy metal singers have a lot in common. Both genres require a great deal of vocal control and power, and both place a premium on showmanship. Many metal singers have a background in theater or opera, which helps them to put on a good show. And while the styles are different, both genres often make use of growling and other “unusual” vocal techniques. Here is a list of some of the best jazz and heavy metal singers.

Ozzy Osbourne

Ozzy Osbourne is a English singer, songwriter and television personality. He rose to prominence in the early 1970s as the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath. Osbourne has since had a successful solo career, releasing 11 studio albums, including his 1980 debut Blizzard of Ozz and 1986 release The Ultimate Sin. He has also accumulated numerous solo hits, such as “Crazy Train” and “Mama, I’m Coming Home”.

Bruce Dickinson

Bruce Dickinson is an English singer, songwriter, musician, airline pilot, and actor. He is the lead singer of the heavy metal band Iron Maiden and is considered one of the pioneers of the genre. He has a four-octave vocal range and his powerful singing style has earned him many nicknames, including “The Air Raid Siren” and “The Metal God”.

Dickinson began his career in music as a member of the new wave band Samson (not to be confused with the British heavy metal band of the same name) in the late 1970s. He joined Iron Maiden in 1981 and remained with the band for almost two decades, leaving in 1993 to pursue a solo career. During his time with Iron Maiden, Dickinson released three solo albums, released eleven studio albums with the band, and toured extensively around the world.

Dickinson resumed his musical career with Iron Maiden in 1999 and continues to perform with them today. He has also continued to pursue a solo career, releasing six more solo albums between 1999 and 2020. In addition to his musical endeavours, Dickinson is also an airline pilot and has flown for British Airways and Astraeus Airlines. He has also appeared in several films and television series, including playing himself in an episode of The Simpsons.
