Michael Kenneth Williams (born November 22, 1966) is an American actor, dancer, and producer. He is best known for his role as Omar Little on the HBO drama series The Wire and as Albert “Chalky” White on the HBO series Boardwalk Empire. He has also appeared in films such as Bullet (1996), Bring Out the Dead (1999), The Road (2009), Inherent Vice (2014) and Ghostbusters (2016).
Williams was born in Brooklyn, New York City, and raised in East Flatbush. His mother was a homemaker, and his father was a small-time businessman who owned a home improvement store called Williams’ Ace Hardware. He is of Caribbean descent; his mother was born in Grenada while his paternal grandparents were from Barbados. Williams attended George Westinghouse Career and Technical Education High School before transferring to Ventfort Hall School, a prep boarding school in Lenox, Massachusetts. Later he studied theater at Sarah Lawrence College.
