-Nelson Mandela was a South African political leader and human rights activist. He is best known for his work leading the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa during the 1970s and 1980s. Mandela spent 27 years in prison for his political beliefs before being released in 1990. He then went on to serve as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999.
