After receiving his first guitar as a gift from his father, Douglas began to play and compose gospel songs. He eventually went on to form the Douglas Miller Singers, a successful gospel group that toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe. In addition to his work with the Douglas Miller Singers, Douglas has also released several solo albums, including My Soul Has Been Anchored in the Lord (2013), which features some of his most popular gospel songs.

Besides his work with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras, Douglas Miller is an accomplished composer and music educator. In 2012, he was commissioned by Music works NorthWest and the Oregon Symphony to write a 125th anniversary fanfare for the Oregon Symphony.
