Reggae music has been around for decades and has undergone many changes. The latest batch of new reggae music released this year showcases the genre’s evolution. Here are five new reggae albums you need to hear.
Alborosie- Unbreakable
Alborosie is known for his spiritual messages in his music, and this album is no different. The album opens with a message from Bounty Killer, which sets the stage for the rest of the album. All of the tracks are conscious anthems that will have you nodding your head in agreement. With features from gentleman and Ky-Mani Marley, this album is sure to be a hit with reggae lovers around the world.
Collie Buddz- Good Life
Collie Buddz’ new album “Good Life” is a feel-good record that will put a smile on your face. The reggae artist from Bermuda has teamed up with some of the biggest names in the business, including Snoop Dogg, to create an album that is sure to get you moving.
J Boog- Sunshine Girl
J Boog’s sixth studio album, Sunshine Girl, was released on July 20th. The album was preceded by the release of the single “Good Vibes”, which peaked at number one on the iTunes Reggae Chart. Sunshine Girl features twelve tracks, including collaborations withpressure Busspipe, Don Carlos, Rebelution’s Marley D. Williams, and J Boog’s son Jaiyah. The album is a mix of new material and reworked versions of some of J Boog’s older songs, including “My everything”, “ Downtown girl” and “No other love”.
Upcoming Releases
Rebelution- Free Rein
Los Angeles-based reggae band Rebelution will be releasing their sixth studio album, Free Rein, on June 15. The album was produced by Eric Rachmany, the band’s lead singer and guitarist, and features guest appearances from J Boog and Chris Boomer.
Free Rein is the follow-up to 2015’s Peace of Mind, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae Chart and No. 9 on the Billboard Top 200. The new album includes the singles “De-Stress” and “So High,” both of which were released in April.
Rebelution formed in 2004 while the members were attending college in Santa Barbara. The band has since released five studio albums, all of which have peaked in the Top 10 on the Billboard Reggae Chart. In addition to their own tours, Rebelution has also performed at major music festivals like Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Coachella and Austin City Limits.
SOJA- Poetry In Motion
Released on October 27, SOJA’s Poetry In Motion is a return to form for the reggae outfit, who first gained popularity in the early 2000s with tracks like “Tell Me” and “Everything Changes.”
With its mixture of reggae, hip-hop, and R&B influences, Poetry In Motion finds SOJA at their most diverse, with lead singer Jacob Hemphill stepping out from behind the microphone to show off his skills on the guitar and piano.
The album’s standout tracks include the laid-back groove of “I Believe,” the anthemic “Not Done Yet,” and the title track, which features Hemphill’s daughter Kailani and son Kai on backing vocals.
The Green- Marching Orders
After a two-year hiatus, The Green is back with their much-anticipated fourth studio album, Marching Orders. The album was produced by Grammy award winner Don Corleon and features 12 tracks that are sure to get your feet moving. With a mix of reggae, rock, and soul, The Green has created an upbeat and feel-good sound that is perfect for summer. Standout tracks include “All I Need,” “Can’t Stop,” and “Forgive Me.”

Iration- Party Time
Iration is an American reggae and rock band, originating from Isla Vista, California. The band members include bassist/singer Liloa Paredes, drummer/singer Joseph King, guitarist Micah Pester, saxophonist/keyboardist Cayson Peterson and lead singer/percussionist Kane Covell. Covell and Pester are the only members who were born in Hawaii. Iration’s sound has been variously described as “a mix of reggae, rock and pop”, “reggae-infused alternative rock” and “jaw-droppingly beautiful vocal harmonies”.
Iration’s third studio album Automatic was released on August 13, 2013 and debuted at number 14 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. The album’s first single “Timebomb” impacted radio on April 16 with an official add date to Alternative radio of May 7. The song peaked at number 8 on the Alternative Songs airplay chart in August 2013, making it Iration’s highest charting single to date. On June 24, 2014, Iration released their fourth studio album Hotting Up. The album debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, making it Iration’s highest charting album to date.
The Expendables- Sand In The Sky
Hailing from Santa Cruz, California, The Expendables have been making waves in the reggae community for years. With their unique blend of reggae, punk, and ska, they have established themselves as one of the most original and fun bands in the genre.
Their latest album, “Sand In The Sky”, is due out on May 26th, and it is sure to be one of the most anticipated reggae albums of the year. Featuring guest appearances from Kool Keith and Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, the album is sure to be a hit with fans of all ages.

Dirty Heads- Sound of Change
Dirty Heads’ new album, Sound of Change, is set to be released on July 8, 2014. The first single from the album, “My Sweet Summer,” was released on May 6, 2014 and serviced to radio on May 20, 2014. Dirty Heads will embark on a headlining U.S. tour in support of Sound of Change beginning June 19 in Los Angeles, CA at the Shrine Expo Hall. The tour will make stops in Portland, Seattle, Denver, Cleveland and more before wrapping up at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO on July 27.
