November 1st- The American Sound
The American Sound is a documentary that explores the origins and evolution of Nashville’s country music sound. The film features interviews with some of country music’s biggest stars, including Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, Vince Gill, and Reba McEntire. The American Sound airs on PBS on November 1st at 8pm ET/PT.
November 8th- The Nashville Sound
The Nashville Sound is a Country Music PBS show that will be airing on November 8th at 8 PM CST. This show will explore the rise of country music in the city of Nashville, Tennessee.
November 15th- The Bakersfield Sound
On November 15th, PBS will be airing a show called “The Bakersfield Sound”. This show will explore the rise of country music in Bakersfield, California. The city of Bakersfield is known for its honky-tonks and country music scene. The show will feature interviews with country music stars such as Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, and Dwight Yoakam.
November 22nd- The Outlaw Country Sound
Experience the stories and sounds of country music’s most influential artists, from Hank Williams and Patsy Cline to Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson. The special features never-before-heard recordings and intimate interviews with the living legends who created the outlaw country sound.
Featured Artists
This month on PBS, catch your favorite country music artists and bands performing their latest hits. Some of the featured artists this month include:
November 1st- Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt
These three artists are considered some of the most influential women in country music history. Dolly Parton is a legendary singer-songwriter who has penned some of the genre’s most iconic songs, including “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You.” Emmylou Harris is a highly acclaimed singer and songwriter who has won multiple Grammy Awards. Linda Ronstadt is a multi-platinum selling artist whose hits include “You’re No Good” and “Blue Bayou.”
November 8th- Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Johnny Cash
Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Johnny Cash are considered by many to be the three most important country artists of all time. On November 8th, they will be featured on PBS Country Music in a special two-hour event. This promises to be an unforgettable night of music and story telling, so be sure to tune in!
November 15th- Buck Owens and Dwight Yoakam
On November 15th, be sure to tune in to PBS to watch a special featuring two of country music’s most influential artists- Buck Owens and Dwight Yoakam.
Buck Owens was a pioneer of the “Bakersfield sound” of country music, and helped bring country music into the mainstream with his string of hits in the 1960s, including “I’ve Got a Tiger by the Tail” and “Act Naturally.” Dwight Yoakam is one of the most successful artists of his generation, with more than 30 million records sold worldwide. He is known for his unique fusion of country and rockabilly sounds, as well as his stylish fashion sense.

November 22nd- Hank Williams, Sr., Patsy Cline, and Loretta Lynn
On November 22, we feature Hank Williams, Sr., Patsy Cline, and Loretta Lynn.
Hank Williams, Sr. was an American singer-songwriter and musician who is considered one of the most significant country music artists of all time. Among his many hits are “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” “Cold, Cold Heart,” “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry,” and “Jambalaya.”
Patsy Cline was an American singer who is considered one of the most influential vocalists of the 20th century. She had a string of hits including “Walkin’ After Midnight,” “I Fall to Pieces,” and “Crazy.”
Loretta Lynn is an American country music singer-songwriter with multiple gold albums and hit singles such as “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “One’s on the Way.” She is considered one of the most influential female vocalists in country music history.
