Introduction

The Phantom of the Opera: Angel of Music is a beautiful and haunting song from the popular musical, The Phantom of the Opera. Composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, this piece has been arranged for piano and voice with guitar chords.

The Angel of Music

The Angel of Music is a fictional character who appears in Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel The Phantom of the Opera. He is also a character who appears in many adaptations of the novel, most notably Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 1986 musical.

In the original novel, the Angel of Music is an invisible spirit who tutors Christine DaaƩ, an aspiring opera singer, and provides her with the knowledge and skill to become a successful artist. He is later revealed to be the Phantom himself, Erik.

In subsequent adaptations of the story, the Angel of Music has been portrayed as either a figment of Christine’s imagination, or as a separate entity from the Phantom altogether. In Lloyd Webber’s musical, he is portrayed as an actual angel who has been sent to help Christine achieve her potential.

The Final Scene

The following is the final scene of the Phantom of the Opera.

Angel of Music, come to me
Come, my Gabriel, revel with me
In this dying hour of ecstasy

When all is lost and gone
And dead memories live on
And dying notes vibrate in the air

Your music is my only prayer
So let it be, my dear Angel of Music
My gift to you, my last solemn vow

The End

The final few measures of the piece features a reprise of the opening “Angel of Music” theme, this time in a minor key to signify the tragedy of the Phantom’s story. The music then dies away to a single piano note, which is held for four measures before the piece ends abruptly.
