The Return of the Phantom

We all know the story of the Phantom of the Opera. He was a man who was disfigured and rejected by society. He fell in love with a woman named Christine and tried to win her over with his music. When she chose another man, he became obsessed and terrified her. The original story was written by Gaston Leroux and first published in 1909. It has been made into several films, most notably the 1925 version starring Lon Chaney Sr. and the 2004 version starring Gerard Butler.

The original production

The original production of “The Phantom of the Opera” debuted on Broadway in 1988. The musical tells the story of a deformed phantom who falls in love with a beautiful soprano, Christine, and wreaks havoc on the Paris Opera House when she rejects him. The musical was an instant success, winning seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It has since been performed in more than 150 cities around the world and has been translated into 15 languages.

The new production

The new production of The Phantom of the Opera will be staged by director Laurence Connor, with set and costume design by Paul Brown, lighting by Tony Award winner Paule Constable, sound by Mick Potter and new choreography by Scott Ambler.

This latest version will preserve the script and score of the original production, while re-imagining the staging and design for a new generation. The creative team has worked together to bring a fresh perspective to the classic story, while staying true to the beloved Source material.

The Phantom of the Opera Returns to Dallas Music Hall will be produced by Cameron Mackintosh and Playhouse Theatres Limited, with NETworks Presentations LLC serving as general managers.

The Dallas Opera

The Dallas Opera is excited to announce that The Phantom of the Opera will be returning to the Winspear Opera House for a limited engagement from May 3-27, 2018. Based on the classic novel by Gaston Leroux, The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of a masked figure who lurks beneath the catacombs of the Paris Opera House, wreaking havoc on the lives of all who cross his path.

The cast

The cast of The Phantom of the Opera features some of the most talented opera singers in the world. The lead roles of Christine and Raoul will be played by soprano Nicole Cabell and tenor Ben Bliss. The role of the Phantom will be played by baritone Jay Hunter Morris.

The Dallas Opera is excited to welcome back Jay Hunter Morris, who made his Dallas Opera debut in 2006 as Scarpia in Tosca. Morris has gone on to starred in many other operas, including La Bohème, Madama Butterfly, Carmen, and Turandot. He has also been featured on Broadway in South Pacific and The King and I.

We are also thrilled to welcome soprano Nicole Cabell to the Dallas Opera. Cabell made her professional debut with the English National Opera in 2001 and has since gone on to perform at some of the world’s most prestigious opera houses, including La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Royal Opera House.

Tenor Ben Bliss will make his Dallas Opera debut as Raoul. Bliss is a recent graduate of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. He has also been a member of the Young artist programs at Santa Fe Opera and Glimmerglass Festival.

The story
