“Think of Me”

“Think of Me” is aOpera ballad from the English musical The Phantom of the Opera. It was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics written by Charles Hart and Richard Stilgoe. The song is sung by the main character, Christine Daaé, as a farewell to her lover, the titular phantom.

The first time we hear “Think of Me”

The first time we hear “Think of Me” is during the opening Titles and it’s a stormy night. We see the Opera Garnier in all its gothic glory with lighting flashing and huge waves crashing against the building. Then we see a small boat with two people in it, they are fighting and the woman falls overboard. We see her body being swept away by the waves and then sinking deep into the water.

The next time we hear “Think of Me” is when Christine is being fitted for her costume for the opera “Hannibal”. Meg is helping her and they are laughing and chatting. We see a man watching them from the shadows, it is Raoul. Then we hear Christine singing “Think of Me” as she tries on her costume. She looks beautiful and Raoul is transfixed by her.

The second time we hear “Think of Me”

After the recitative, “Oh, giorno!” and the following duet, “Mi chiamano Mimi,” in which we are reminded of her name and her profession (she is a seamstress), we hear “Think of Me” for the second time. This time it is sung by Christine, who is on stage alone. She is thinking about her childhood sweetheart, Raoul.

The third time we hear “Think of Me”

The third time we hear “Think of Me” is right after the Auction Scene, where Erik has just bought Christine at the auction. This time, it is a duet between Christine and Raoul. It starts with Christine singing the first verse, and then Raoul joins her for the second verse. The third verse is sung by Christine alone.
