History

Planet Soul was an American house music duo, best known for their 1993 hit single “Set U Free”. The duo consisted of producers JeffRedd and William “Bill” Humphries, who were also the founding members of the Music Boyz.

The duo originally met in the mid-1980s while Humphries was working as a DJ at a club called Mars, where Redd was a regular patron. The two began making music together, and in 1992, they released their first single, “Feel the Music”, on the London-based record label, React Music. The song became a hit in clubs and soon caught the attention of Atlantic Records, who signed the duo to a record deal.

In 1993, the duo released their debut album, Planet Soul, which featured the lead single “Set U Free”. The song became a massive hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart and number two on the Hot 100. The album itself peaked at number thirty-seven on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold by the RIAA.

Following the success of their debut album, Planet Soul released several more singles, including “Feel This Way” and “I Wanna Give You Devotion”, both of which reached the top ten on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. In 1994, they released their second album, Another Night ON Planet Earth, which featured the lead single “Can You Feel Me?”. The album peaked at number sixty-five on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold by the RIAA.

Planet Soul disbanded in 1995, but have reunited several times since then for live performances. In 2010, they released a greatest hits album entitled Greatest Mixes ON Planet Soul.
