Last night, Prince Royce took home five awards at the Latin American Music Awards, including Artist of the Year and Song of the Year.

Early life and musical beginnings
Prince Royce was born Geoffrey Royce Rojas in The Bronx, New York. His father, who was also a DJ, exposed him to all different genres of music growing up. Royce began songwriting at age 13 and would go on to write hits for artists like Seventeen, Pitbull, and Wisin & Yandel. After high school, he met producer Andres Hidalgo, who helped him land a record deal with Top Stop Music. In 2010, he released his self-titled debut album which featured the smash hit “Stand by Me”, a cover of the song by Ben E. King. The album went on to sell over 100,000 copies in the United States and was certified Gold by the RIAA.
Musical career
Prince Royce began his musical career in 2009, when he met AndrĂ©s Hidalgo who invited Royce to record a demo CD with five of his own compositions. After hearing the tracks, Producer Sergei Sequera offered Royce an opportunity to work on his first album. One of the songs composed by Hidalgo, “Stand by Me”, would end up being Royce’s breakout hit on Yankee’s first album. In March 2010, it was announced that he would be working with Universal Music Latin Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment after signing a joint venture between the two companies.
