The Doors released their self-titled debut album in 1967, which contained the smash hit singles “Light My Fire” and “Break On Through (To the Other Side)”. The album was a critical and commercial success, and was quickly followed by their second album, Strange Days, in 1968. The album included the hit single “People Are Strange”.

Morrison’s erratic behavior and drug use began to take its toll on the band, and as a result, their third album, Waiting for the Sun, was not as successful as its predecessors. Morrison’s problems continued to mount, and after a disastrous concert in Miami in 1969, he was arrested for disorderly conduct and accused of indecent exposure. These charges were later dropped.

Morrison died in 1971 at the age of 27 from what is believed to have been an accidental heroin overdose. The Doors continued to record and tour without him, but they were never able to achieve the same level of success as they had with Morrison. They disbanded in 1973.
