The Psychedelic Furs- “Love My Way”
“Love My Way” is a song by the English rock band The Psychedelic Furs, released in July 1982 as the lead single from the group’s second album, Forever Now.
The song was a huge commercial success for the band, reaching the Top 10 in both the UK and US, and becoming one of their best-known songs. In the US, it peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. In the UK, it reached number three on the UK Singles Chart.
“Love My Way” was written by the Psychedelic Furs’ frontman Richard Butler and guitarist John Ashton. The song was produced by Steve Lillywhite.
The song has been covered by many artists over the years, including Robbie Williams, who had a Top 10 hit with his version in 2002.
The Doors- “People Are Strange”
“People Are Strange” is a song by The Doors, released in September 1967 from their self-titled debut album. The song peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was written by doors members Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger, and was one of the first songs recorded by the band.
In January 1967, Manzarek and Krieger were in Venice Beach, Los Angeles, when they saw two young men—John Densmore and Jim Morrison—walking on the beach. The two were hitchhiking and looking for a place to stay. Manzarek and Krieger invited them to crash at their apartment, which was nearby. Soon after, the four became friends and started jamming together. “People Are Strange” was one of the first songs they wrote together.
The song is built around a simple three-chord progression of A–Bm–D. The verse follows a pattern of A–Bm–A–Bm–D–A, while the chorus is A–Bm–D–D. Morrison’s lyrics are about alienation and loneliness. In the song, he sings about how “people are strange” when you’re “a stranger”.
The Doors recorded “People Are Strange” in June 1967 at Sunset Sound Recorders in Hollywood, California. Producer Paul A. Rothchild wanted to create a sense of unease with the song by adding sound effects such as backwards vocals and keyboards played through a Leslie speaker. The backwards vocals were achieved by playing tape recordings of Morrison’s vocals backwards at half-speed; Rothchild then had Morrison sing along with the playback. Keyboardist Ray Manzarek played his Fender Rhodes electric piano through a Leslie speaker to create the “swirling” sound effect heard during the bridge section of the song.
The song was released as a single in September 1967 and peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in October 1967—becoming one of The Doors’ most successful songs. It also charted at No.. 18 on Billboard’s Easy Listening chart and No.. 25 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.[citation needed] In October 2011, Rolling Stone magazine ranked it No.. 42 on its list of “The 100 Greatest Singles of All Time”.
Pink Floyd- “Another Brick in the Wall”
This song is often considered one of the greatest rock songs of all time, and it’s easy to see why. The lyrics are angry and bitterly sarcastic, yet somehow also strangely catchy. The music is driving and energetic, yet also strangely uplifting. It’s a perfect example of the power of psychedelic rock.
The Beatles- “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”
Psychedelic rock, also referred to as psychedelia, is a style of music that emerged in the mid-1960s and became prominent in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The genre is characterized by its use of distorted guitars, trippy vocals, and mind-bending sound effects.
While there are many psychedelic rock bands worth checking out, one of the most iconic is The Beatles. The Beatles’ 1967 album, “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” contains several psychedelic tracks, including “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.”
“Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” is a true psychedelic masterpiece. The song features lender vocals from John Lennon and Paul McCartney, as well as mind-bending sound effects from George Harrison’s distortion-heavy guitar work. The result is a track that perfectly captures the feeling of an acid trip.
If you’re a fan of psychedelic rock, or simply want to hear one of the most iconic tracks in the genre, then be sure to give “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” a listen.
The Rolling Stones- “Paint It, Black”
The Rolling Stones are one of the most iconic and influential rock bands of all time. “Paint It, Black” is one of their most well-known and iconic songs. The song was released in 1966 and instantly became a hit, reaching #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song is dark and eerie, with a heavy use of reverb and distortion.
