Long Beach Dub Allstars
The Long Beach Dub Allstars are a band that was founded in 1997 by a group of musicians who were former members of Sublime. The band’s sound is a mix of reggae, ska, dub, and punk. They have released three albums, the most recent being ‘Youth Revolution’ in 2012. The band will be performing at the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles on March 15th, 2020.
Location
The Long Beach Dub Allstars are a group of reggae and punk musicians from Long Beach, California, United States, who became popular in the late 1990s. The band was led by singer/guitarist Bradley Nowell of Sublime and also includes members of that band.
The group formed after Nowell’s death in 1996, when remaining members of Sublime (bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Bud Gaugh) decided to continue making music together. They were joined by singers Rome Ramirez and Ras Michael, as well as horn players Opie Ortiz, Karl Watson, and Jack Maness. Guitarist Tim Wu and keyboardist Alana Bobier rounded out the lineup.
The band’s debut album, Right Back, was released in 2000 onNowell’s label Skunk Records. The album featured the singles “Sunny Hours” and “Seed”.
The band toured extensively in support of the album, but creative differences betweenWilson and Gaugh led to the latter’s departure from the group in 2002. He was replaced by drummer Marshall Goodman (a.k.a. “Ras Muffet”).
The Allstars’ second album, Wonders of the World, was released in 2003. The album failed to match the commercial success of its predecessor, but included the single “Long Beach Made Me”.
Following the release of Wonders of the World, Bobier left the band to pursue other interests. She was replaced by singer/guitarist Riki Rocksteady ( formerly of punk band Guttermouth).
The Allstars toured sporadically over the next few years before going on hiatus in 2006. In 2009, Wilson and Ramirez announced that they were working on new material for a third Allstars album. However, no further details about the project have been released.
