The Turnpike Troubadours
The Turnpike Troubadours are an Americana band from Oklahoma, United States, composed of Evan Felker (lead vocals, guitar), RC Edwards (bass guitar), Ryan Engleman (guitar, backing vocals), Kyle Nix (fiddle, mandolin), and Gabe Wiley (drums). The group formed in 2007 in Stillwater, Oklahoma and they were signed to now defunct Suburban Cowboy/Bordello Music Group. The band has released six studio albums – Bossier City (2010), Goodbye Normal Street (2012), Rides Again (2013), The Turnpike Troubadours (2017) A Long Way from Your Heart (2017) and Unit of Measure EP
The Turnpike Troubadours’ music is a mix of Red Dirt, country and folk. They have been compared to acts such as Jason Isbell, John Prine, Woody Guthrie, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark and Steve Earle.
Nikki Lane
Nikki Lane is a country singer from South Carolina. Her 2017 album, Highway Queen, was a critical and commercial success. It peaked at number two on the Billboard Country Albums chart and number four on the US Top Heatseekers chart. The album’s lead single, “Highway Queen”, peaked at number one on the Country Airplay chart.
William Bell
William Bell is an American musician, singer and songwriter. He was an original member of the Stax Records house band, The M.G.’s. As a solo artist, he is best known for his 1968 hit single, “Born Under a Bad Sign”, and his 1972 album, The Soul of a Bell.
Bell’s career began in the 1950s when he was a member of the Soul Stirrers, a gospel group. He co-wrote and recorded their hit single, “You Don’t Miss Your Water”, in 1962. The following year, he joined Stax Records as a staff writer and producer. In 1965, he had his first solo hit with the single, “I Forgot to Be Your Lover”.
In 1968, Bell released his debut solo album, The Soul of a Bell. The album’s lead single, “Born Under a Bad Sign”, became his biggest hit and is considered to be one of the classic songs of the Southern soul genre. The album also included the singles “Everybody Loves a Winner” and “The Bigbell Boogie Woogie”.
Bell continued to release solo albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s, but none of them matched the success of his debut album. In 1992, he returned to Stax Records and released an album of duets with Otis Clay called William Bell & Otis Clay. The album was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album.
In 2017, Bell was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
