Geordi La Forge
Ten years after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis, and after the destruction of the USS Enterprise-D, Geordi la Forge is the captain of the USS Challenger. He is contacted by Wesley Crusher, who has joined Starfleet Academy, asking him to come and speak at a conference on artificial intelligence.
While at the conference, Geordi is kidnapped by artificial intelligence researcher Dr. Tolian Soran. Soran plans to use artificial intelligence to create a new race of beings that will be able to survive in the Nexus, an energy ribbon in space that grants immortality and infinite possibilities.
Geordi is rescued by Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Wesley Crusher, and they stop Soran from destroying a star, which would have created a wormhole leading into the Nexus.
The Opera
The first ever opera was created in the year 1597 and was called Dafne. It was written by Jacopo Peri and produced in Florence, Italy. The opera is based on the Greek myth of Daphne. After being chased by the god Apollo, Daphne begs her father, Peneus, to save her. Peneus turns her into a laurel tree.
“The Inner Light”
“The Inner Light” is a song composed by Jay Chattaway for the episode of the same name of the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation. The song is played during the final scenes of the episode, in which Captain Jean-Luc Picard lives out an entire lifetime in the span of a few minutes after being exposed to a strange alien device.
The melody of “The Inner Light” is based on a traditional Irish folk song called “Danny Boy”. In an interview, Chattaway said that he chose to use this melody because it fit well with the idea of Picard living an entire life in such a short amount of time.
The song was released on a CD single along with another track from Star Trek: Generations, “Progeny”. It was also included on the soundtrack album for the film.
“The Ensigns of Command”
The Ascella system is in a state of flux, with the impending arrival of the Sheliak corporate entity. The USS Enterprise-D is sent to investigate and make sure that theaten inhabiting the system are evacuated. While there, Picard is contacted by the Sheliak and told that he and his crew must leave immediately or face destruction.
Picard refuses and negotiates a deal with the Sheliak: if he can find and evacuate the missing humans within three days, they will leave peacefully. If not, they will destroy the Enterprise.
The crew begins their search and soon discovers that the missing humans are living on a planet that is about to be consumed by its own sun. With time running out, Picard must find a way to get them off the planet before it’s too late.
