Introduction
In the past few years, North America has seen a rise in the popularity of electronic dance music, or EDM. This has led to an increase in the number of EDM festivals being held across the continent.
The United States is now home to some of the biggest and best EDM festivals in the world, including Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra Music Festival, and Tomorrowland.
Canada also has a number of great festivals, such as Shambhala Music Festival and Bass Coast.

Electric Daisy Carnival, Las Vegas
Electric Daisy Carnival, commonly known as EDC, is an electronic dance music festival that is held annually in Las Vegas, Nevada. The festival features a wide variety of electronic music genres and is one of the most popular summer festivals in the United States. This year’s EDC will be held from June 19-21 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Ultra Music Festival, Miami
Ultra Music Festival is an annual outdoor electronic music festival that takes place in Miami, Florida. The festival was founded in 1999 by Russell Faibisch and Alex Omes and is produced jointly by Ultra Music, a global electronic music brand, and Live Nation, the world’s largest concert promoter. The festival features performances by DJs and live acts from all genres of electronic music, including house, techno, trance, drum & bass, dubstep, and more.
Creamfields, United Kingdom
Creamfields is an electronic dance music festival held in Daresbury, Cheshire, England. The first festival was held in August 1998 at a site near Winsford. Originally set up by rivals Cream and Judgement Sunday to compete with each other, the event now calls itself “The World’s Greatest Dance Music Festival”. The 2009 festival took place over the August bank holiday weekend (28–31).
Over its seventeen years of existence, Creamfields has slowly expanded. In 2001 the festival found a permanent home at Daresbury Estate in Cheshire, where it has remained since. An estimated 35,000 people attended in 2002. In 2005, an attempt was made to double the size of the event whilst moving to a three-day format. However weather conditions on site led to problems with flooding and generator noise restrictions, resulting in a drop in ticket sales for 2006.
Mysteryland, Netherlands
Mysteryland is an electronic music festival held in the Netherlands that focuses on dance and hip-hop music. The festival is held in Amsterdam and features a variety of electronic music genres.
Spring Awakening, Chicago
Spring Awakening is a three-day electronic music festival held annually in Chicago, Illinois. The festival features multiple stages with various DJs and live acts. Attendees can camp on site or stay in nearby hotels. Spring Awakening was founded in 2012 and has been held at Addams/Medill Park every year since.
The festival has seen a number of high-profile headliners over the years, including Skrillex, deadmau5, Calvin Harris, Tiësto, and Hardwell. In 2015, the festival will take place June 12-14.
Electric Zoo, New York
Of all the summer electronic music festivals in North America, there’s perhaps none more highly anticipated than Electric Zoo. Since its inception in 2009, the festival has become one of New York’s marquee events, drawing in massive crowds of electronic music fans from all over the world.
