The Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame was founded in 1995 to honor, preserve, and promote Texas Gospel Music. TheHall of Fame is dedicated to those who have made a significant contribution to the development and historyof gospel music in Texas.
The Hall of Fame is located in Jefferson, TX, and features a museum with exhibits on the history of gospelmusic in Texas, as well as a performance hall where gospel music concerts are held. The Hall of Famealso offers educational programs, including a youth mentoring program and an annual gospel musicworkshop.
How was the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame created?
The Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame was created in 1997 to recognize, honor, and promote Texas Gospel music and those who have made an impact on the genre. The mission of the Hall of Fame is “to preserve for future generations the history and heritage of Texas Gospel music and to recognize, honor, and promote its performance, creators, and preservation.”
The Hall of Fame is housed at the University of North Texas in Denton. The UNT Music Library’s Special Collections contains the largest collection of Texas Gospel music in the world, which was used to create the Hall of Fame’s exhibit.
The Hall of Fame inducts new members every year at its annual Induction Celebration. To be eligible for induction, nominees must have made a significant contribution to Texas Gospel music and must have been active in the industry for a minimum of 20 years.
