“No Tears Left to Cry” by Ariana Grande
“No Tears Left to Cry” is a song by American singer Ariana Grande. It was released on April 20, 2018, through Republic Records as the lead single from her upcoming fourth studio album, Sweetener. The song was written by Grande, Savan Kotecha and its producers Max Martin and Ilya Salmanzadeh. “No Tears Left to Cry” is a dance-pop and disco song with house, trap and R&B influences. Lyrically, the song deals with the hope experienced after going through difficulties.
The song entered the UK Singles Chart at number three, giving Grande her ninth top-ten single in the country. In the United States, “No Tears Left to Cry” debuted at number three on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Grande’s tenth top-ten single on the chart and her fourth to debut in that position. The song also debuted atop the Digital Songs component chart with 119,000 downloads sold in its first week. Internationally, “No Tears Left to Cry” topped the charts in Croatia and Slovakia while reaching the top five in Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lebanon, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland Portugal and South Africa.

“No Excuses” is a song recorded by American singer Meghan Trainor for her third major-label studio album, Treat Myself (2019). It was written by Trainor along with Justin Tranter and its producers Ricky Reed and Jacob Kasher Hindlin. The song was released to rhythmic radio on March 20, 2018, as the album’s third single. Built around a horn sample of Jerry Butler’s 1968 hit “Never Gonna Give You Up”, “No Excuses” is a trap-influenced R&B song with sexually suggestive lyrics.
The accompanying music video for “No Excuses” was released on March 22, 2018. It sees Trainor going to a grocery store where she finds herself attracted to another customer, played by actor Mateo Arias. The two share an intimate dance in the produce aisle before returning to their daily lives.
“No Excuses” received mixed reviews from music critics; some praised its old-school sound while others found it unoriginal. Upon its release, the song debuted at number 84 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number 50, becoming Trainor’s seventeenth top 50 entry on the chart. In Canada, the single entered at number 44 on the Canadian Hot 100 and peaked at number 30. The song also reached number one on both the US Dance Club Songs chart and the UK Singles Chart, becoming Trainor’s fourth single to top the latter.
“Havana” by Camila Cabello, Young Thug, and Pharrell
“Havana” is a song recorded by Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello, featuring vocals from American rapper Young Thug. It was released on August 3, 2017, as the lead single from her eponymous debut album, Camila (2018). The song was written by Cabello, Pharrell Williams, Ali Tamposi, Brian Lee, Young Thug and Andrew Watt; the latter two handled its production alongside Frank Dukes and Boi-1da. A latin pop and trap song with lyrics that discuss Cabello’s hometown of Havana, it interpolates a sliver of the 1955 crooner “El Bodeguero” by Rita Montaner throughout its chorus.
Critical reception to “Havana” was positive; many reviewers complimented its melody and called it one of the best tracks on the album. The track peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, giving Cabello her first number-one single as a solo artist and making it only the second top 10 hit for both of her featured artists in their careers. Additionally, it set a new all-time record for the most weeks at number one on Billboard’s Mainstream Top 40 radio airplay chart for any song by a female artist. “Havana” also peaked atop various other Billboard charts including those for Rhythmic Songs and Dance Club Songs; in Canada, it topped both the country’s all-format and pop charts.
The song’s accompanying music video was directed by Dave Meyers and filmed entirely in Havana. It features cameos from Cuban actors Eutimio Guerra and Jaime signs among others. Following its release, Cabello included “Havana” in several live performances including at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony (where she performed alongsidePharrell), Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest (2018) Jingle Ball Tour (2017) and Brit Awards (2018).
