Intro

2007 was a big year for Latin music, with many well-known artists releasing new albums and singles. Some of the year’s most popular songs were “Un Beso” byloco, “Tu Recuerdo” by Ricky Martin, and “Mi Gente” by Jean Carlos Canela. Other popular songs included “Te Quiero Igual” by Gloria Trevi, “Loco” by Enrique Iglesias, and “Inalcanzable” by RBD.

“Una Noche”

“No Te Olvides”

“No Te Olvides” is a song recorded by Puerto Rican singer Marc Anthony. It was written by Ricardo Montaner, Mario Pérez, and Manny Benito. The song was released as the first single from Anthony’s album, El Cantante (2007). “No Te Olvides” peaked at number thirteen on the Billboard Tropical Songs chart in the United States.

The song garnered positive reviews from music critics. AllMusic’s Mariano Prunes called it a “catchy ballad”. Steve Jones of USA Today called it a “bittersweet ballad”. Yahoo! Music’s Elysa Garnder called the song a “melancholy ballad”.

“Pero Me Acuerdo de Ti”

“Pero Me Acuerdo de Ti” (“But I Remember You”) is a song recorded by Mexican singer-songwriter Cristina Aguilera for her fourth studio album, Stripped (2002). It was released as the fifth and final single from the album on August 19, 2003, by RCA Records. The song was written by Aguilera, Rudy Pérez, Daphne Rubin-Vega, and Plácido Domingo Jr., while being produced by Rudy Pérez. A Latin pop ballad, “Pero Me Acuerdo de Ti” contains instrumentation from percussion, violins and a piano. Lyrically, it talks about a heartbreak and how despite moving on, one still remembers their past love.

Critical reception towards “Pero Me Acuerdo de Ti” was positive, with many calling it a standout track on Stripped. The song peaked at number 33 on the US Billboard Latin Songs chart in October 2003 and number two on the US Latin Pop Songs chart the following month. In Spain, the track peaked at number nine on the PROMUSICAE chart. An accompanying music video for “Pero Me Acuerdo de Ti” was directed by David LaChapelle and filmed in Los Angeles. It features Aguilera exploring different rooms within an abandoned carnival funhouse that correspond to stages of heartbreak she goes through after a relationship ends.

“Tu Recuerdo”

“Tu Recuerdo” by Ricky Martin was the number one Latin music hit of 2007. The song is a ballad that talks about the pain of lost love and the power of memories. The music video features Martin walking through different stages of his life, recalling happy times with his lost love.

“Dime”

Dime is a song by Mexican singer Jennifer Lopez. The song was written by Lopez, Cory Rooney, Troy Oliver, Andre Lindal, and Gregorius, with additional writing by Makeba Riddick. It was released on February 20, 2007, as the lead single from Lopez’s fourth studio album Brave (2007). “Dime” is a Latin pop and R&B ballad that contains elements of hip hop. In the United States, the song peaked at number forty on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Elsewhere, it peaked within the top ten of the charts in Hungary and Spain. The accompanying music video for “Dime” was directed by Melina Matsoukas and filmed in Los Angeles.

“Llorar”

“Llorar” (English: “To Cry”) is a song by Mexican pop ballad duo Jesse & Joy. It was released as the third single from their self-titled debut album on May 1, 2007 by Universal Music Latino. The song topped the Mexican airplay charts for twelve weeks and the US Latin Pop Songs for three weeks. It peaked at number thirty-nine on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming their first single to appear on the chart.

The music video for “Llorar” was directed by Alejandro Gomez Monteverde and premiered on May 29, 2007.

“Algo Especial”

The song “Algo Especial” by La Secta AllStar was released in 2007 and quickly rose to the top of the Latin music charts. The song is a reggaeton track with a catchy hook and La Secta’s unique blend of rap and singing. “Algo Especial” remained at the top of the charts for several weeks and was one of the most popular Latin songs of 2007.

“Todo Cambió”

“Todo Cambió” is a song by Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira, taken from her sixth studio album Fijación Oral, Vol. 1 (2005). It was released as the third single from the album on August 8, 2006.

“Pero Tú”

“Pero Tú” (English: “But You”) is a song recorded by Spanish singer-songwriter Marta Sánchez. It was written by Sánchez and Rafael Pérez Botija, and produced by Pérez Botija. The song was released as the third single from her fourth studio album, Desde La Distancia (2006), on December 11, 2007.

A pop ballad, “Pero Tú” talks about the sleepless nights caused by a failed relationship. The single received positive reviews from music critics, who praised its production and Sánchez’s vocal performance. Commercially, the song was a success in Spain and some Latin American countries. It peaked at number one in Spain and Venezuela, while reaching the top ten in Romania, Chile and Peru.

An accompanying music video for “Pero Tú” was directed by Jessy Terrero. It features Sánchez walking around different locations in Madrid while contemplating about her failed relationship.
