Introduction
The University of North Texas Opera proudly presents five fully-staged operatic productions each year. Our season runs from September through May and features a wide variety of operas, from traditional masterpieces to contemporary works. We are committed to providing our audiences with an enriching and entertaining experience, and to providing our students with the best possible training in the art of opera.

The University of North Texas Opera
The University of North Texas Opera is dedicated to the art of live opera performance and the development of new operatic works. Under the leadership of Director James Crawford, the UNT Opera has produced innovative stagings of both classic and contemporary operas. The company is also committed to nurturing the creation of new operatic works and has been involved in the development and premiere productions of several new operas, including Pulitzer Prize-nominated Cold Sassy Tree by Carlisle Floyd and Elmer Gantry by Robert Aldridge and Herschel Garfein.
The University of North Texas Opera Program
The University of North Texas Opera Program is one of the most respected in the United States. It has been a leader in training young singers and opera professionals for over fifty years. The program offers a Bachelor of Music in Opera Performance, a Master of Music in Opera Performance, and an Artist Diploma in Opera Performance. The program is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
The University of North Texas opera program has produced many notable alumni, including Grammy Award-winning tenor Lawrence Brownlee, American opera singer Audrey Babcock, Canadian operatic bass-baritone Kevin McMillan, Mexican tenor Alejandro Peña-Caballero, and Chinese baritone Yang Xiaohan.
The University of North Texas Opera Theater
The University of North Texas Opera Theater is a student-run organization that strives to provide high-quality opera performances for the university community and the Denton area. The organization is made up of students from the University of North Texas College of Music who are passionate about opera and are dedicated to bringing this art form to as many people as possible.
The University of North Texas Opera Theater was founded in 2008 and has since produced a variety of operas, including “The Barber of Seville,” “Carmen,” “The Marriage of Figaro,” “Don Giovanni,” “La Bohème,” “The Cunning Little Vixen,” and “Madama Butterfly.” In addition to producing fully-staged operas, the University of North Texas Opera Theater also presents fully-staged scenes programs and educational outreach programs for elementary and secondary schools.

The University of North Texas Opera Scenes is a student-run opera company that produces two fully-staged operas each year. The company is dedicated to providing students with opportunities to perform leading roles in a variety of operas, as well as works by contemporary composers. In addition to performing, students also have the opportunity to work behind the scenes in all aspects of opera production.
