If you’re looking for music that’s popular with 15 year old grunge style girls, you’ve come to the right place. In this blog post, we’ll share some of the most popular artists among this demographic, so you can stay up-to-date on the latest trends.

Nirvana

Nirvana was an American rock band formed in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. They were one of the most successful and influential bands of the early 1990s. The group initially consisted of Nirvana was Kurt Cobain (vocals and guitar), Krist Novoselic (bass guitar), and Dave Grohl (drums).

The band’s debut album, Bleach, was released on June 15, 1989, on Sub Pop Records. Their second album, Nevermind, became a surprise success in 1991. It knocked Michael Jackson’s album Dangerous off the top of the Billboard charts and became one of the best-selling albums of all time. The album went on to sell over 30 million copies worldwide. Nirvana’s third and final studio album, In Utero, was released in 1993. It was also a commercial success, reaching number one on the Billboard charts.

Nirvana disbanded following Cobain’s suicide in 1994. Grohl went on to form the Foo Fighters, while Novoselic worked with a number of different bands before eventually becoming a political activist.

The Smashing Pumpkins

The Smashing Pumpkins are an American alternative rock band from Chicago, Illinois. Formed in 1988 by frontman Billy Corgan (lead vocals, guitar), D’arcy Wretzky (bass), James Iha (guitar), and Jimmy Chamberlin (drums), the band has undergone many line-up changes. The current lineup features Corgan, Chamberlin, Iha and guitarist Jeff Schroeder.

They found alterna-rock mainstream success with their second album, Siamese Dream (1993). The group built its audience with extensive touring and their 1995 follow-up, the double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 album chart. With 20 million albums sold in the United States alone, The Smashing Pumpkins were one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands of the 1990s. However, internal fighting, drug use, and diminishing popularity put an abrupt end to the band’s original run after their 2000 album Machina/The Machines of God.

Corgan announced that he was reviving the band in 2006 with a new lineup consisting of himself on lead vocals and guitar, Chamberlin on drums, Iha on guitar and bassist Ginger Reyes; however Reyes was later replaced by Nicole Fiorentino. The new lineup released Zeitgeist (2007) to mixed reviews but found greater success with Oceania (2012), which peaked at number four in the Billboard 200. In 2014 it was revealed that Chamberlin had left yet again but would be rejoining for upcoming recordings; Fiorentino also departed before these recordings took place leaving Jeff Schroeder as the sole guitarist for what is now a three-piece lineup with Corgan and Chamberlin.

Alice in Chains

Alice in Chains is an American rock band from Seattle, Washington, formed in 1987 by guitarist and songwriter Jerry Cantrell and original lead vocalist Layne Staley. The initial lineup was rounded out by drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Starr, who was replaced in 1993 by Mike Inez. Despite having substantial commercial success, the band was plagued by extended inactivity from 1996 onwards due to Staley’s struggles with addiction.

The band finally reunited in 2005 for a live performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, followed by a reunion tour in 2006. The group released their fourth studio album, Black Gives Way to Blue, in 2009; it received gold certification by the RIAA and became the band’s highest-charting album on the Billboard 200, while its lead single “Check My Brain” became Alice in Chains’ first song to enter the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band toured extensively for 18 months promoting Black Gives Way to Blue before going on hiatus again due to Staley’s relapse into addiction; he died two years later of a heroin overdose. In 2013, Cantrell and Kinney resurrected Alice in Chains with William DuVall taking over as lead vocalist….

Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam is an American rock band that formed in Seattle, Washington in 1990. The band is made up of five members: lead singer and guitarist Eddie Vedder, bassist Jeff Ament, rhythm guitarist Stone Gossard, lead guitarist Mike McCready, and drummer Matt Cameron. Their 1991 debut album, Ten, became a critical and commercial success, reaching number two on the Billboard 200 chart and selling over 13 million copies in the United States.

Soundgarden

Fifteen year old grunge style girls tend to enjoy Soundgarden’s music. The band’s dark and edgy lyrics are relatable to many young people who are exploring their own identity. Soundgarden also has a classic rock sound that is appealing to this demographic.

Stone Temple Pilots

Stone Temple Pilots are an American rock band from San Diego, California, that originally consisted of Scott Weiland (lead vocals), brothers Dean DeLeo (guitar) and Robert DeLeo (bass, backing vocals), and Eric Kretz (drums). The band’s first album, Core, was released on September 29, 1992. Neither the album’s cover art nor its title would hint at the grungy sound contained within; it would be almost impossible to mistake “Sex Type Thing”, the first single from the album, as anything but grungy.

Temple of the Dog

Temple of the Dog was an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1990, by singer Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and guitarist Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam. The band also included Mike McCready of Pearl Jam and Matt Cameron of Soundgarden as guitarists, and Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam as bassist. The band was created in the wake of the untimely death of Andrew Wood, the lead singer of Mother Love Bone. Wood died prior to the release of Mother Love Bone’s debut album, Apple.

The band released its only album, a self-titled album, in April 1991 through A&M Records. The record barely reached the Billboard 200 chart before A&M began promoting it with the release of “Hunger Strike”, which featured Cornell on lead vocals and McCready on rhythm guitar. The single helped Temple of the Dog become one of the most popular grunge bands at the time. The album has since been certified platinum by the RIAA in the United States.

Mother Love Bone

Mother Love Bone was an American rock band that was formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1988. The band was active until 1990, when frontman Andrew Wood died of a heroin overdose.

The band’s only studio album, Apple, was released posthumously in 1990 and reached #7 on the Billboard 200 album chart. The album included the hit single “Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns”, which peaked at #12 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.

Mother Love Bone is often credited as being one of the earliest grunge bands, and their sound heavily influenced the Seattle grunge scene of the early 1990s.

Mudhoney

Mudhoney is an American grunge rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1988. The band’s lineup currently consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Mark Arm, drummer Steve Turner, bassist Guy Maddison, and guitarist Steve Dukich. Original bassist Matt Lukin left the band in 1999. Mudhoney’s sound draws heavily from classic rock and punk rock sources while incorporating elements of garage rock and heavy metal; their lyrics are often irreverent, funny, or dark.

Mudhoney was one of the first American alternative rock bands to achieve mainstream success on a major label (GEFFEN) during the grunge era of the early 1990s. The band achieved wide recognition with their debut album Superfuzz Bigmuff (1988), which became an underground hit produced by Sub Pop Records co-founder Jack Endino. Since then Mudhoney has released nine studio albums and have had five live albums released. Despite changing styles across their career, Mudhoney has remained consistent with their “roots” in punk and classic rock while experimenting with different genres including garage rock, metal and psychedelic rock. Although the band has never achieved widespread commercial success outside their native Pacific Northwest region of North America, they have been praised by critics as one of the essential bands of the Seattle music scene and as forefathers of the grunge music genre.
