Who Won Entertainer of the Year at the Country Music Awards?
Last night’s Country Music Awards were a night to remember. One of the biggest winners of the night was Entertainer of the Year. Who won this prestigious award?
Carrie Underwood
Carrie Underwood was named entertainer of the year at the 53rd annual Country Music Association Awards on Wednesday night, upsetting reigning champion Garth Brooks and three-time winner Luke Bryan.
The award is considered one of the highest honors in country music. It is voted on by more than 7,000 members of the CMA, including industry professionals and country radio station personnel.
Underwood, who won the award for the first time since 2008, thanked her husband, Mike Fisher, and their son, Isaiah, for their support. She also gave a shout-out to her mother and father, Carole and Steve Underwood.
“I’ve been blessed beyond measure with so many amazing things in my life,” she said. “My husband and my baby boy are my everything.”
The other nominees for entertainer of the year were Jason Aldean, Keith Urban and Miranda Lambert.
Luke Bryan
Luke Bryan was named Entertainer of the Year at the 54th annual Country Music Awards on Wednesday night, a top prize that he also won in 2015 and 2012.
The 41-year-old singer-songwriter from Georgia beat out four other nominees for the coveted honor: Garth Brooks, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban and Eric Church.
“This is so surreal,” Bryan said as he accepted the award. “I want to thank country radio for continuing to play my music. I want to thank my team … I want to thank my beautiful wife and my two boys at home. I want to thank all the fans who come out and support live music.”
Bryan also gave a shout-out to country music legend Charlie Daniels, who died this year at the age of 83.
“Charlie Daniels was one of the coolest guys in country music,” Bryan said. “He will be dearly missed.”
Bryan concluded his speech by dedicating his award to those who have been affected by the recent string of mass shootings in the United States, including one that took place at a country music festival in Las Vegas in October 2017.
“We just wanna remind you guys to hug your loved ones tight every day because you just never know,” Bryan said.
Blake Shelton
The Academy of Country Music Awards are Sept. 16, and Blake Shelton is nominated for entertainer of the year.
The other nominees are Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan.
Shelton is also nominated for top male vocalist, song of the year and album of the year.
Keith Urban
Keith Urban is a New Zealand-born Australian country music singer, songwriter and record producer. In 1991, he released a self-titled debut album and charted four singles in Australia before moving to the United States the following year. He found work as a session guitarist before starting a solo career in 1999 with his second self-titled album. The album’s fourth single, “You’ll Think of Me”, peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and made him the only male Australian artist to achieve this feat since Ricky Nelson in 1962.
Florida Georgia Line
The Winners of Entertainer of the Year are Florida Georgia Line.
This award is given to “the artist who had the biggest impact on country music this past year.” This is the first time that a duo has won this prestigious award.
The other nominees were Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, and Keith Urban.
