A Little Night Music
A Little Night Music is a 1973 musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler. It is based on Ingmar Bergman’s 1955 film Smiles of a Summer Night. It tells the story of several married couples and how they deal with love, infidelity, and heartbreak. The University of Alabama Opera is proud to present this classic musical.
The University of Alabama Opera
The University of Alabama Opera will be performing A Little Night Music on April 13-15 in the Fetzer-Gillam Opera Studio. Based on Ingmar Bergman’s film Smiles of a Summer Night, this musical, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, tells the story of several couples who are attempting to find love and happiness amidst the complications that arise from affairs and unrequited love. The University of Alabama Opera is excited to present this Tony Award-winning musical to Tuscaloosa audiences.
The University of Alabama Symphony
The University of Alabama Symphony is dedicated to providing the highest quality orchestral performance and educational opportunities for the university community and the citizens of Alabama. Under the direction of Maestro Marcelo Bussiki, the Symphony performs five concert series each year, including a Masterworks series, a Pops series, and a Children’s Concert series. In addition to these regular performances, the Symphony provides educational outreach programs for elementary and secondary schools throughout the state.
The University of Alabama Glee Club
The University of Alabama Glee Club is a choral group that performs a wide range of music, from classical to pop. The group is open to all students, regardless of major, and has no audition requirement. The Glee Club performs two full-length concerts each year, as well as several smaller performances. The group has toured extensively, both nationally and internationally, and has performed at a variety of venues, including Carnegie Hall and the White House.

The University of Alabama Opera will be performing “A Little Night Music” on October 31st at 7:30 pm. The play, by Stephen Sondheim, is a comedic love story that follows the lives of several couples in turn-of-the-century Sweden. The Opera promises a night of delightful music, beautiful costumes, and heartwarming laughter.
The University of Alabama Symphony
The University of Alabama Symphony is a full-time, professional orchestra that is in residence at the University of Alabama School of Music. The Symphony is dedicated to the performance of the highest quality classical music and to the advancement of music education. The Symphony performs more than 50 concerts each year, including educational and family concerts, pops concerts, and a summer festival. The Symphony also collaborates with the University of Alabama Opera on productions each semester.
The University of Alabama Glee Club
The University of Alabama Opera will present Mozart’s “A Little Night Music” on Thursday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Moody Music Building Concert Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.
The opera will be sung in English with projected English supertitles. The production is directed by Professor of Voice Kristin Chenoweth with music direction by DMA student Zachary Sterling. The set and lighting design are by Graduate Scenic Designer Eric Van Wyk and Costume Designer Aprilne Myers is creating period pieces for the ensemble cast.
“A Little Night Music” features a Glee Club ensemble of 18 undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of majors including music, engineering, communication studies, history and anthropology. The cast also includes 10 non-music majors who are members of the University Theater program.
The University of Alabama Jazz Band
The University of Alabama’s Jazz Band is one of the top collegiate jazz bands in the country. The Jazz Band has performed at many prestigious festivals, including the Montreux Jazz Festival, the North Sea Jazz Festival, and the Heineken Jazz Fest.
The University of Alabama Symphony
The University of Alabama Symphony will present “A Little Night Music” at 7:30 p.m. on April 5 in the Concert Hall of the Moody Music Building. The program will be conducted by Maestro Eduardo Diazmuñoz and will feature soprano Whitney Duncan, mezzo-soprano Katelyn Lewis, and baritone Armando Contreras.
The University of Alabama Glee Club
The University of Alabama Glee Club, under the direction of Dr. Rebekah Driscoll, is a mixed choir of approximately 60 students who perform a wide variety of choral repertoire, from madrigals to spirituals to contemporary works. The Glee Club performs two major concerts each year, in addition to performing with the University Symphony Orchestra and other instrumental ensembles on campus. The Glee Club has been invited to perform at state, regional, and national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association and has appeared twice at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

The University of Alabama Jazz Band, also known as the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra, is the University’s premier jazz ensemble. The band performs a wide variety of styles, including big band swing, Latin jazz, funk, and contemporary jazz. The band has played at venues all over the world, including the Montreux Jazz Festival, the North Sea Jazz Festival, and the Seoul Drum Festival.

If you’re in the mood for a little night music, the University of Alabama Glee Club is putting on a free show tonight in the concert hall. The glee club is made up of students from the University of Alabama and is one of the oldest and most prestigious groups on campus.
The University of Alabama Jazz Band
Since its founding in 1945, the University of Alabama Jazz Band has been an integral part of the University of Alabama Glee Club. The Jazz Band is a select group of musicians who perform at all Glee Club concerts and events, including A Little Night Music, the Glee Club’s annual holiday concert. The Jazz Band also accompanies the Glee Club on its annual spring tour.
