The Baltimore Folk Music Society is a 501(c)(3) organization that has been promoting the traditional music of the region since its founding in 1957. We are dedicated to presenting folk music concerts, dances, and workshops for our members and the general public. We also sponsor monthly events at Leadbelly’s Nightclub in Canton. The Baltimore Folk Music Society is run entirely by volunteers; we have no paid staff. Our all-volunteer Board of Directors meets monthly to discuss club business and plan events.

The society sponsors a Maryland Traditions Apprenticeship Program in partnership with the Maryland State Arts Council andTraditional Arts in Maryland Public Folklore program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. The program provides intensive on-the-job training for two master traditional artists each year.

The society also offers an annual summer music camp for children ages 8–16. The camp teaches string band instruments, including fiddles, banjos, guitars, mandolins, and dulcimers. Students also learn about dance styles associated with various types of music. No previous experience is necessary; all levels are welcome.
