It’s been a great year for country music with a mix of new artists and old favorites releasing incredible songs. George Strait, Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley, Willie Nelson, and Carrie Underwood are just a few of the many artists who released great music in 2016. Let’s take a look at some of the best songs of the year.

Song of the Year:

“Die a Happy Man” is a song co-written and recorded by American country music artist Thomas Rhett. It was released on September 28, 2015, as the fourth single from his second studio album, Tangled Up. The song became Rhett’s first number one hit on both the US Billboard Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts in early 2016. Best Male Vocalist of the Year:

The best male vocalist of the year was a tough choice, but we have to give it to Chris Stapleton. He had an incredible year, with his album “Traveller” becoming the bestselling album of 2016. He also won multiple Grammy Awards, including Best Country Album and Best Country Solo Performance.

Best Female Vocalist of the Year:

Kelsea Ballerini won big at the CMAs this year, and for good reason! The 24-year-old singer has been on a serious roll, releasing chart-topping singles and delivering powerful live performances. She’s also become a force to be reckoned with on social media, using her platform to inspire and connect with her fans. We can’t wait to see what she does in 2017!

Best Group of the Year:

It’s safe to say 2016 was the year of country music. We had surprise duets, new crossovers, huge comebacks, and so much more. So narrowing it down to just 10 was no easy task, but we managed to do it. Here are the best songs of 2016.

“Humble and Kind” – Tim McGraw
This song is a tear-jerker, no matter how many times you hear it. McGraw has always been good at delivering touching ballads (remember “Live Like You Were Dying”?), but “Humble and Kind” might be his best one yet. The lyrics are simple but effective, and they’ll stay with you long after the song is over.

“Blue Aint Your Color” – Keith Urban
If there’s one thing Keith Urban knows how to do, it’s write a catchy tune. “Blue Ain’t Your Color” is no exception. It’s a mid-tempo track with a retro sound that will have you hitting repeat all day long.

“Die a Happy Man” – Thomas Rhett
This song was inescapable in 2016, and for good reason. It’s an incredibly catchy love song that will resonate with anyone who’s ever been in a long-term relationship. Once you hear the opening line (“Girl you know I want your love”), you’ll be hooked.

“Record Year” – Eric Church
Eric Church knows how to write a good ole’ country song, and “Record Year” is one of his best. It’s a nostalgic track about loss and heartbreak, set against the backdrop of country music history. If you’re a fan of Church’s previous work, you’ll love this song.

“My Church” – Maren Morris
Maren Morris had a breakout year in 2016, and “My Church” was her breakout hit. It’s a upbeat ode to country music that will make you want to hit the road and head for Nashville.

Best New Artist of the Year:

Maren Morris

Maren Morris’ major label debut album, Hero, was one of the best albums of 2016, no matter the genre. It’s a record that’s unapologetically country, from the slide guitar on “My Church” to the steel guitar on “80s Mercedes,” but it also incorporates elements of pop, R&B, and even EDM. That versatility is what earned her a Best New Artist Grammy nomination.
