The story
The story of The Blues Brothers began in 1978 when John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, members of the cast of the popular American TV show Saturday Night Live (SNL), appeared on the show in a sketch that featured them as a pair of blue-collar musicians. The sketch was so successful that it led to the release of a comedy album, Briefcase Full of Blues, later that year. The album featured Aykroyd and Belushi backed by some of the top blues and soul musicians of the day, including James Cotton, Matt “Guitar” Murphy, and Steve Cropper.
The popularity of the album led to the making of a movie, The Blues Brothers, which was released in 1980. The movie starred Belushi and Aykroyd as brothers Jake and Elwood Blues, respectively. In the movie, the brothers set out on a “mission from God” to raise $5,000 to save the Catholic orphanage where they were raised.
