The making of Café Music Studio- Ghibli Jazz and Bossa
Café Music Studio is a music production company led by composer and music producer, Ko Otani. The company is based in Japan and has produced music for a range of different media, including anime, films, television dramas, and commercials.
Café Music Studio’s most notable work is their Ghibli Jazz and Bossa series, which features covers of classic songs from Studio Ghibli films re-imagined in a jazz or bossa nova style. The series has been extremely popular, with the album Café Music for Studying and Relaxing becoming one of the best-selling CDs in Japan.
The Ghibli Jazz and Bossa series was born out of Otani’s love for both Studio Ghibli films and jazz music. He was inspired to create the series after listening to Miles Davis’ 1959 album Kind of Blue, which he felt had a similar atmosphere to the films of Hayao Miyazaki.
Otani worked with a number of different musicians to create the series, including saxophonist Tadashi Hattori, pianist Yuki Matsui, trumpeter Kenichi Tsujimoto, and drummer Takahiro Miki. The musicians all shared Otani’s passion for both jazz and Studio Ghibli films, and were able to bring their own unique perspectives to the project.
The making of Café Music Studio- Ghibli Jazz and Bossa was a true labor of love for all involved. The team spent countless hours perfecting each cover, ensuring that each one captured the essence of both the original song and the film it was taken from. The result is a truly unique and beautiful series that has brought joy to fans all over the world.
