Born Virginia Patterson Hensley on September 8, 1932, in Winchester, Virginia, Patsy Cline was one of country music’s greatest stars, with a earthy style (a mixture of country and pop) that crossed over to mainstream audiences. She began performing in local clubs at a young age and eventually caught the attention of record producer Jim Denny, who helped her secure a contract with 4 Star Records in 1955. Her first single for the label, “A Church, a Courtroom & Then Goodbye,” was released that year. Cline’s career took off following her detailed recounting of a near-fatal car accident on the Eddie Cochran memorial tribute song “I Fall to Pieces,” which hit No. 1 on both the pop and country charts in 1961.

Loretta Lynn

Loretta Lynn is an American singer-songwriter with multiple gold albums in a career spanning almost 60 years. She is famous for hits such as “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “One’s on the Way.” Lynn has won numerous awards and is one of the most influential country music singers of all time.

Tammy Wynette

Tammy Wynette (May 5, 1942 – April 6, 1998), born Virginia Wynette Pugh, was an American country music singer-songwriter and one of country music’s best-known artists and biggest-selling female singers. Wynette was called the “First Lady of Country Music”, and her best-known song, “Stand by Your Man”, is one of the best-selling hit singles by a woman in the history of country music. Many of her hits dealt with classic themes of loneliness, divorce, and abandonment. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Wynette charted 20 No. 1 songs. Along with Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton, she is credited with having defined the role of women in country music during the 1970s.

Her debut album, Some Hearts, was released in 2005 and is the fastest-selling solo female debut album in country music history. Its first single, “Inside Your Heaven”, made her the only country artist to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Underwood has since sold more than 65 million records in the United States and over 15 million albums worldwide.

Miranda Lambert

Miranda Lambert is one of the most successful country music singers of the modern era. She has won multiple Grammy Awards and is widely respected for her songwriting and vocal abilities. Lambert has a unique style that blending elements of traditional country with a more modern sound. She is one of the few country singers who has been able to find success both on the radio and in the mainstream music industry.

Reba McEntire

Reba Nell McEntire (born March 28, 1955) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer. She began her career in the music industry singing in local clubs and bars in Oklahoma. After recording and releasing her first album in 1977, she was signed by a Nashville talent agent.

Her career took off from there, with her first major hit single “How Blue” reaching the top of the country charts in 1979. She would go on to have a long string of successful albums and singles throughout the 1980s and 1990s. In the early 2000s, she took a break from recording music to focus on acting, appearing in a number of films and television shows.

From busking on the streets of Arlington, Texas, to stealing the show at the 2016 Grammy Awards and becoming one of only six female country artists to ever achieve two No. 1 albums on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, Maren Morris has proved that she’s a force to be reckoned with in country music.

The 27-year-old singer-songwriter released her major label debut album, Hero, in 2016, which included her platinum-selling single “My Church.” She followed that up with her sophomore album, GIRL, in 2019, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart and featured the hit singles “GIRL” and “The Bones.” Morris has won several awards throughout her career, including three Grammy Awards, three CMA Awards, one ACM Award, and one AMA Award.

Kacey Musgraves

Kacey Musgraves is a singer and songwriter from Golden, Texas. She released her first album in 2007, and has since gone on to release four more albums. Her most recent album, Golden Hour, was released in 2018 to critical acclaim. Musgraves is known for her songwriting ability, as well as her traditional country sound. She has won several awards, including the Grammy Award for Best Country Album and the Grammy Award for Best Country Song.

Ashley McBryde

Ashley McBryde (born July 29, 1983) is an American country music singer-songwriter. She was born in Bastrop, Louisiana, and later moved to Arkansas. Her debut studio album, Girl Going Nowhere, was released in 2018 to critical acclaim.

McBryde has been described as a “gutsy and gifted storyteller” by The New York Times and a “highlight of country music’s current renaissance” by Entertainment Weekly. She has also been praised for her songwriting abilities; her single “A Little Dive Bar in Denver” was co-written by McBryde and multiple Grammy Award-winner Shane McAnally, and was praised by Rolling Stone for its “exquisite storytelling”. In 2019, McBryde won the CMA Award for New Artist of the Year.
