Reggaeton
Reggaeton is a style of music that originated in Puerto Rico in the late 1970s. It is a fusion of Jamaican reggae and dancehall with Latin American styles like bomba and plena. Reggaeton is known for its fast-paced, catchy beats and often sexually explicit lyrics.

This year, Reggaeton had a huge breakout moment with the release of “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee. The song quickly became a global phenomenon, topping charts in more than 30 countries and becoming the first Spanish-language song to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in over 20 years.

Other notable Reggaeton releases this year include:
-“Chantaje” by Shakira featuring Maluma
– “Sola” by Anuel AA
– “Shaky Shaky” by Daddy Yankee

Bachata
Bachata is a style of music that originated in the Dominican Republic in the early 1960s. It is typically slower than other Latin genres like salsa and merengue, and often features guitar melodies and romantic lyrics. Bachata became popular outside of the Dominican Republic in the 1990s, thanks in part to artists like Juan Luis Guerra and Romeo Santos.

This year, bachata had a major resurgence thanks to Prince Royce, who released his fifth studio album Five (full album here). The album debuted at number one on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart and features the hit single “Darte un Beso.” Other notable bachata releases this year include: -“Te Amo” by Romeo Santos -“Incondicional” by Prince Royce -“Si Tu Novio Te Deja Sola” by J Balvin featuring Bad Bunny
