The Best Electronic Indie Music of 2020

2020 was a great year for electronic indie music. A lot of great artists released some amazing music this year. Here are some of the best electronic indie music of 2020.

Bonobo – “Bambro Koyo Ganda”

The English producer and DJ Bonobo, real name Simon Green, just released his sixth studio album, Migration. The record is a study in migration both sonic and physical; it’s a heavily percussive, global-influenced album that features guest vocalists from around the world. But it’s also an album about Green’s own move from England to Los Angeles, and the ways in which that displacement has affected his creative process.

“Bambro Koyo Ganda” is one of the standouts from Migration. It’s a propulsive track built around a throbbing bassline, hand percussion, and occasional gusts of synth. But what really elevates the track are the guest vocalists: British singer Grey Reverend and Gambian kora player Madou Sidiki Diabate. Their performance is both haunting and beautiful, adding an emotional heft to an already ethereal track.

Disclosure – “Ultimatum”

Disclosure’s third album, Energy, is full of club-ready anthems, but “Ultimatum” is the standout. The track features guest vocals from Fatoumata Diawara and is Disclosure’s love letter to global bass music. The production is absolutely top-notch, with a steady 4/4 beat propelling the track forward and a constant stream of catchy melodies and hooks. “Ultimatum” is one of the best electronic tracks of 2020, and it’s easy to see why Disclosure are one of the most popular duos in the world.

Four Tet – “Two Thousand and Seventeen”

Kieran Hebden, best known by the stage name Four Tet, is an English musician. Hebden first came to prominence as a member of the band Fridge before establishing himself as a solo artist.

“Two Thousand and Seventeen” is a song by English musician Four Tet, released as a single on 2 June 2017. The song was written and produced by Hebden.
