“Fancy” by Iggy Azalea ft. Charli XCX

The song was written by Azalea and XCX in early 2013 while touring the United States together in support of Rihanna’s Diamonds World Tour and Azealia Banks’ headlining Broke with Expensive Taste Tour.

“Fancy” is an up-tempo hip hop track that features production work from English production team The Invisible Men—consisting of George Astasio, Jason Jay Ingham and Jon Ingrosso—and American production team WillIDoit. Additionally, it contains elements of Chillwave and electropop. Lyrically, the song is a throwback to 1990s hip hop slang/culture and speaks about opulence. Upon its release, “Fancy” peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100—becoming both Azalea’s and XCX’s second number-one single on the chart—making them only the fourth female duo to top the Hot 100. It also peaked at number one in Australia and Canada, while reaching number two in New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

The accompanying music video for “Fancy” was directed by Director X and co-produced by Aaron Ayanruoh of Freenjoy, Inc.. It takes place primarily at Los Angeles’ Union Station where Azalea is seen performing choreographed dance routines with her backup dancers in 1950s attire alongside shots of her walking around various locales within Downtown Los Angeles while lip syncing to the song’s lyrics.”Fancy” won three MTV Video Music Awards at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards including “Video of the Year”, “Best Female Video”, as well as “Best Hip-Hop Video”.
